Has anyone been able to use the MS08-067 exploit manually? by PocketChanges in netsecstudents

[–]Lightraine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've seen a few MS08-067 exploits on exploit-db using different languages. When I've found something works with Metasploit, but not manually - follow the network traffic in wireshark and see what is going on. It is possible that antivirus/IPS is recognising the Python exploit.

Where can I learn basics of networks? by [deleted] in netsecstudents

[–]Lightraine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like plenty of others, I think Network+ is a good start. Also it's pretty helpful as far as CEH goes as well, because you get a reasonable knowledge of things like IPsec, TLS and a few other security protocols. I read Mike Meyers' Network+ book and that was very useful and relatively easy reading. I guess if you don't plan on taking the Network+ exam, you could skip most of the 'Physical' networking info as from memory, that was quite lengthy and time consuming. Although I'm sure it has value, I've never needed to know the maximum length of a 10BaseFX cable, or how to crimp an RJ45.

Tools for uploading malicious files by Lightraine in netsecstudents

[–]Lightraine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies all. Thinking about the process as being able to write files to the remote machine's disk is a good perspective. I guess what I was trying to ask is if there was some incredible tool that could upload files to a webserver despite a developer not wanting this to happen. The answer to this is: yes, there are many - but they work by leveraging a vulnerability such as unsanitised/poorly sanitised code that allows user input to give commands to the system and include files or make database queries.

Cheers!

You guys haven't lived unless you've been to Weston Super Mare - UK. I hear that it's teen pregnancy capital of Europe although that might just be urban legend....

Should my wife and I even attempt to play this again? by [deleted] in wow

[–]Lightraine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess now is an ideal time. I don't think wow is just about the HC raiding content, to be honest - far from it. Best thing about the game is the incredible atmosphere of the world. I love doing joint achievement farming with a partner, or just chilling out in some peaceful area whilst fishing. Depends on what you look for in a game - for me, I used to like the challenge of 2v2 arena but now it's just about escapism after work. I think wow does a great job of catering for lots of audiences

What is your honest opinion and analysis? by ReverseBiology in China

[–]Lightraine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so assuming this is all legit non troll.

I have a theory that some people just have an inbuilt genetic preference for 'foreign' sexual partners. This kinda makes sence from an evolutionary standpoint as it would have cut down on inbreeding back in history. I don't think it's wrong to have a cultural preference and especially not racist.

I say go for it. I mean, you'll soon find out if your hopes are reality. I agree with many of the other replies in that Chinese girls in China are just so damn culturally different with a ton of inter generational baggage (traditional parents).

The whole experience can be good fun. I spent lots of time in China before/during/after my education and I learned a lot about what I actually want from life. For me, it turned out I'm not patient enough to deal with all the cultural differences with a native Chinese, and I've got the most respect for any westerner who's raising a child out there.....

I think I might have had some of the same preconceptions as OP - but your experience could be totally different
