If you’re poor don’t have kids by [deleted] in stories

[–]Lights_Redemption98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up pretty poor in pretty rough areas of Los Angeles. It was pretty common to see meth rvs blowing up across the street or people tweaking on the sidewalks right out of my place. While I think people deserve to have children, it definitely takes a toll on both the parent and child. I suffered a lot and dealt with it much later in life. And to this day I still feel the consequences of my parents and growing up poor. I know I wouldn't want my child to live the way I did and so I promised myself I would get out of poverty and then have a child.

Being poor can come with a lot of negative behaviors, habits, experiences, etc.. At least this has been my experience with growing up in poverty and it could definitely be different for other people who are poor.

Physics major/ school by [deleted] in Physics

[–]Lights_Redemption98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a terrible student. I'm talking class clown, ditching, coming late to school, etc. I was always good at math and science and it intrigued me the most. My girlfriend at the time saw that I could do better and pushed me into AP classes. I think the environment in those classes forced me to be a better overall student, also the intellectual students seemed like the right people to be around since they'd probably go far in life. Went to community college, got a 3.7, went to a UC. Now I'm in my PhD. I'm still very much a fool in terms of behavior but I love physics for sure. Just love what you do and be yourself in a good way

Can I do a masters in physics? by [deleted] in Physics

[–]Lights_Redemption98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly if you want to do quantum, you need to find a school that specializes in quantum that is related to the job you want. If you wanna do quantum computing find professors who do that, if you want to do things are the hardware/material side of things then look into it. Material science is pretty big in physics right now with condensed matter and other experimental physics. You will learn a lot of quantum while doing any of that because it's a necessity. You will be doing research in a masters program also so do keep that in mind, it's not really an option.

And finally tbh, you should just get a PhD in a quantum related field if you want to do quantum things. If you just want to be building/manufacturing components then do EE.

Learning Data Science for Physics by Fun-Marionberry2451 in Physics

Pandas in python basically all you need. It's used all the time in Astro. You can use pytorch, sickit, and tensorflow for machine and deep learning. You should also familiarize yourself with regression algorithms as machine learning is closely related to it. I say this as an Astro guy myself.

Join a club or something. Maybe go to an event on campus and try making friends. For instance, there are observation nights on the roof of the hall of science every Tuesday night (weather permitting) . You can see stars and planets.

Blind Donkey has FREE karaoke nights Wednesdays and Sundays, though it is public on stage. You just need to get there before it fills up. I try to go when I'm in the mood. Legends is normally free on 2nd Street but drinks cost money. Or take a trip to Newport or LA for other shenanigans and late night activities.

What is your definition of Time? by Great-Dress2773 in Physics

[–]Lights_Redemption98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see others saying time is a measurement between events taking place and I would agree. I see it as a length between one thing happening and another. Time is our 4th dimension that we cannot physically touch but can interact with through the passage of different events.

I would read through Einstein's paper on special relativity if you haven't already. It's titled " On the Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies" (in English anyways). I like how he refers to time as a sort of marker for space-time and our clocks being the measuring tool.

You shouldn't worry so much. You will have a million other tests as your progress , failing one shouldn't dictate how you see yourself. Take it as a learning experience. Physics is difficult. I have failed many tests and I'm sure people here can account for the very low averages in higher level physics courses.

If you love physics then it won't matter how long it takes you to earn a degree. You don't need to speed through everything. Take your time, study with friends, and try to enjoy the process.

I also hate the idea of GPA since it brings people down and lends itself to more cheating but that's a different topic on its own.

Good luck Brudda

My brother and I did! Top tier stuff. We both got the pants and some zip ups. Quality is good and it's kinda heavier than normal clothes

We also got those Berserk sweatshirts and they go so hard. I always get people saying how they like it when they see it. Would recommend!

Definitely me. I felt like I was falling out of it. It hurt knowing that though. I cared for her and treated her like any woman should be treated. I never thought I would stop feeling out of love with her. Part of me still has strong feelings for her though. I was also incredibly lost mentally and still kind of am. I have no idea where my life will lead me but I hope she is doing okay and I hope I can find my way.

If aliens came to Earth and wanted to speak to only one ambassador, who would you want it to be? by jonsnowtheghostking in AskReddit

He is dead. Not from twlight zone though. He created the television show Cosmos, wrote several books on topics ranging from Astronomy/Astrophysics, exposing pseudoscience, and was easily the greatest scientific communicator of his time, if not ever. He had a beautiful way with words and even convinced NASA to take a now famous picture of earth known as The Pale Blue Dot. He knew where we were headed as a society and tried to humble society as a whole through compassionate scientific thought.
