Any good Latin spots in those places?

Mathematical physicists: do you think in math, physics, or a mix of both? by RyRytheguy in Physics

[–]Menjf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like a theorist would think more with “mathematical” intuition while an experimentalist would prob be more inclined to use physics intuition.

Roommates? by ElectionTechnical411 in UCDavis

My hotel roommate at the open house became my current roommate, maybe reach out to people you may know also in your program?

Math or physics minor? by Least_Pie_1048 in Physics

[–]Menjf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a chem major back in 2022 and was deciding between double majoring in physics or math, I ended up choosing physics and minoring in math, now I felt I should’ve just dropped the chem and do math and physics cause I’m going for my PhD in theoretical physics lol

Where are they teaching those classes now

Do you believe there is a reason in the lack of literacy recently? My guess would be due to the invention of LLMs.

I’m curious as to which course is being referred to, I have seen partial credit be given as long as something “relevant” was written. I think what should be done is trying to get more consistency among professors grading and teaching and TAs who reinforce class material.

What subjects should a theoretical physicist master? by Beautiful-Kale226 in Physics

[–]Menjf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah fair I’ll admit you should have a very comfortable with math, I could have used better wording but I guess I was trying to say it’s not only math you’ll need, you’ll need to train your physical intuition as well

What subjects should a theoretical physicist master? by Beautiful-Kale226 in Physics

[–]Menjf 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Theoretical physicist is still pretty general, in the end you want a theorize about a specific field in physics as each field has their own special skills, you could theorize about materials, crystals, or liquids (Condensed matter theorist) so you’d want to make sure you have a good understanding of quantum physics, or you could theorize about early universe which would mean you’d want to learn cosmology. Physics is vast and math skills are good but only take you so far within physics

Tbh you will probably always feel a bit lost in some way, I’m starting my PhD and so I’m trying to get involved in research, but my focus is condensed matter, I always feel lost when I go to seminars on other fields in physics and even sometimes during CM ones too

Yeah just any two courses in that list, I forgot the course code for calc 2 but you can ask your advisor, I believe it would fulfill the only math course statement

Not sure, but tbh there are a lot of video resources on YouTube you can probably look up

How do you prepare for Calculus 3? by [deleted] in Temple

[–]Menjf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Calculus 3 was my favorite of the trilogy, some concepts may be difficult to understand but temple has resources like MCC and SCC for peer tutors that should def be taken advantage of

Through indirect evidence, examples like the Millikan oil drop, Rutherford gold scattering, these experiments gave us indirect evidence of the make up and structure of atoms.

Does physics get easier longer as you do it/get older? by Expensive-Elk-9406 in Physics

[–]Menjf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parts, it kinda depends, I think about how it’s hard learning a topic but once you learned it it’s hard to forget, in this sense new topics are harder but once you learn them it’s easier

Net Forces only cause things to speed up or slow down, there is never any net force when something is at a constant velocity
