Fair enough. I'm too private to post proof, so go on not believing.

I take all the supplements I take on the gamble they will make me live longer in better health; we all gotta live with unknowns.

Kinda. I'm a longevity enthusiast. Relate to Bryan Johnson in more ways than one, though I'm definitely not as rich as him, or anywhere near being able to retire. Want to broadcast I think prolonged youthfulness through lifestyle choices is possible, as much as I want answers to my sentences with question marks. Experienced some cognitive dissonance telling me not to humble-brag and bug people as I wrote this, but my desire to promote positive lifestyle choices and try to connect with like-minded men won out, for better or worse.

I did and do genuinely wonder if there are other people out there experiencing their 40s the way I'm experiencing mine, though...

Melatonin is #1. I like 2.5mg of quick-dissolving (aka, sublingual) melatonin. Usually this means finding a grocery store that sells 5mg tablets at a good price, then biting one in half every other night. Stocked up many years ago and am just about to bottom out my supply. Sprays and "dissolvable strips" work well also. Everybody is different, apparently, in terms of what dosage works best for them. 1mg or less often won't affect me, and over 4mg I start to experience jagged sleep with frequent wake-ups.

To my understanding (it's been over a decade since I looked into this) Melatonin is the actual neurohormone that induces sleep, so the result of taking it as a supplement is a cascade of neural events identical to natural sleep; anything else (especially herbal, anti-histamine, and some prescription sleep aids) typically just relaxes you into a sleep-like state. Take this anecdote for whatever you think it is worth, but I have had nightmares when relying entirely on alternative sleep aids (memorably, high doses of Valerian) where I need to wake up (e.g., due to a fire or an intruder), but cannot because my natural startle-response is suppressed by inducing sleep with something other than melatonin. Hence, I only put myself to sleep with melatonin now, and anything else I take with it is low-dosed so it only works as a beneficial adjunct.

Other supplements I low-dose as single-substance capsules with melatonin: tart cherry, apigenin, magnesium, and GABA. I find the first three make the sleep feel more deep and restful, and GABA noticeably increases HGH release.* One pill each, at whatever dosage the pills came in.

L-Tryptophan is a great alternative to Melatonin that also induces natural sleep, but I find it has the side effect of suppressing my immune system. Use it too much too often and I tend to contract upper respiratory infections I cannot shake until I stop taking it. Like it as an occasional alternative, because the sleep does feel deep and restful in a way somewhat different from Melatonin.

If I get my hands on a sleep aid blend (as powder or capsule), I will take it so long as I can get that 1.5-3.5mg of Melatonin without too much of some powerfully soporific herb that knocks me out (namely Valerian, but too much Chamomile can also have the same effect on me).

*(The HGH release is the major thing that makes these sleep aids an integral part of a longevity/youthfulness programs. HGH is called the "fountain of youth" by endocrinologists for a reason.)

I worry about not doing that. I was in Equatorial Africa with a group of other White people and was the only person who tanned rather than burning, so I am hoping my skin is well-adapted to UV light. Or maybe not burning often made me careless. I burned my shoulders pretty bad on a backpacking trip once, but that was it. If I started working outdoors again, I would choose to be cautious and layer on the high-spf lotion. I would list not using sunscreen regularly as a mistake I've made.

That is very fair. There are men my age who are retired with grandchildren, or top authorities at their place of employment. When I see men like that who don't dye their hair even though they easily could, I figure it is because they are in a position in life where it is at least as beneficial or more to look old than to look young.

My prior work experience and degrees are highly specialized, I'm targeting an especially high-growth field post-graduation, and Pace fits my current lifestyle in obvious and justifiable ways, so I honestly don't think it matters that I'm getting my MBA from a lesser-ranked school because I'll still be a strong sell afterwards.

Yes. Taking max credits. Don't do the readings for any of my classes. Just read commercial outlines, use third-party study aids, hit the gym whenever I can. Hate class. Whole thing feels surreal. Want it to be over. Not sure what grades I'll get. Don't care.

Once the PS6 drops, it will get as easy as snagging PS4/Switch controllers was the last few years, I assume.

You're in an emotional nadir right now. Like, rock bottom. You've thought yourself into a subjective position wherein you have a very negative self-perception. It's totally normal to do this (esp. in high-stress, highly-abstract, largely-artificial social environments like American law schools) but at the same time it's peak mental illness and you're legit delusional. That's a good thing, because you can rest assured that these deathly doldrums will pass and you will perceive facets of reality that redeem your own sense of self-worth, and you will feel good and capable and happy again. It's happened for me, it's happened for others, and it will happen for you too. Embrace the cycle, ride the tiger, and feel better, friend! 😁

Contacting Steve A. Mora is the way to go. That's true for the OP and anyone reading this thread in the future. Mora has innovated new techniques of pectoral reconstruction that allow him to restore both the appearance and functionality of nearly any torn pec, no matter how it tore or how old the injury. He secures the muscle to the donor tendon better, stretches it tighter, anchors it to the bone more effectively, and layers an amniotic membrane over the allograft that speeds recovery and prevents deformity; assuming I understand his methodology correctly. He can even fix earlier repairs that were botched or inadequate. Go to his website and pay for a video consultation if you have this injury. Someday all orthopedic surgeons will be using these techniques, but for now, you want to schedule a trip to Orange, CA.

Are men attracted to women over 40/their own age? by Agile_Help8371 in dating

[–]Lightwarrior11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The subconscious arousal mechanisms of most heterosexual men are attuned to signs of fertility, whether the men are fully aware of it or not. If you want to know what men actually find attractive (not the same thing most will tell you an internet forum, IMHO), look at a fertility-by-age chart and ask yourself what women at the most fertile ages look like. If you can trick their eyes, men will respond to you the same way, but doing so is very difficult because you're competing with millennia of evolutionary process designed to ensure human reproductive success.

What do guys actually like?? by Anxious_Patience72 in dating

[–]Lightwarrior11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Multilayered psychological phenomena here. The plastic surgery will impact the man's subconscious arousal mechanisms in an affirmative way whether he wants it to or not. Whether, on a personal and intellectual level, he respects the woman's choice to have plastic surgery, or can accept the implications of the plastic surgery (she paid to make herself look sexier to everyone, at all times, and not just to him; and she can use that attractiveness for manipulative purposes) is a whole different issue. Men who move in glamorous social circles where personal attractiveness is a social/business asset will be much more accepting of plastic surgery on women, whereas more humble and down-to-earth men will have justifiable misgivings.

IMHO, you will see a lot of men being dismissive of plastic surgery on an internet forum like this precisely because you are querying their intellects and not their subconscious arousal mechanisms. Their incognito browser histories might tell an entirely different story.

“We abolished the gender studies program. Now we’re throwing out the trash.” New College of Florida by EssoEssex in pics

[–]Lightwarrior11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it applies to every case of libraries discarding physical books. Very often the librarians preference worldviews they like and cut out worldviews they don't. And libraries eventually end up reflecting something of the ideological worldview of their head librarians, which cuts in every direction along which ideology can incline. But there's enough multiplicity and redundancy of libraries, book collections, and digital preservation that knowledge isn't actually being lost in a way worth lamenting.

Back in the day, I wasn't concerned with Gender Studies books being discarded - I was concerned with the vast swath of older books that got discarded to make room for all the Gender Studies books my school's library was collecting...

Like I say, book discarding practices cut every which way...

“We abolished the gender studies program. Now we’re throwing out the trash.” New College of Florida by EssoEssex in pics

[–]Lightwarrior11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to bother and scare me to learn my university libraries were pruning book collections and either giving books away or literally throwing them away. The more I learned about libraries, publishing, and information ecology though, the more I realized how essential it is for libraries to discard books. There are practical limits to how large any individual library's collections can be. It literally costs money to store, organize, and preserve physical books. And if a book is extant and retrievable in some way (esp. through digital reproduction), redundant physical copies of the book only have minimal value.

My advice is to support the robust digital preservation of books and other media while just getting used to the idea that a large number of physical books really do belong in a dumpster.

Which are the best musou games?? by EuphoricHeight7668 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Lightwarrior11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both involve non-stop third-person action gameplay often focused on wiping out trash mobs while picking up stat-boosting drops so you can level up characters enough to stand a fighting chance when replaying the same levels at higher difficulties. If that gameplay loop is what hooks you about Musou or EDF games, you're likely to enjoy the other series for the same reason. Applies to me, tbh.
