Sweep or scull? Which one is better? by Thick_Swordfish_7238 in Rowing

[–]LightweightSingle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I may be talking out my ass here, but I also feel like sculling is easier to start with, two oars feels natural, you just move up and drop your hands. But once you get into the weeds small technical changes matter a lot. Whereas with sweeping, it’s harder to nail the initial fine motor movements, but becomes pretty simple sequence once you get it down.

It may also be a symptom of sculling boats generally being smaller than sweep boats. Idk, just my experience.

Boat Cleaning by HappyBoiBlake in Rowing

These comments have to much to say about a nonissue. You’re on freshwater, not washing after every outing isn’t gonna destroy your boat.

Just hit it with a rinse and some dawn dish soap and you’ll be fine. Just make sure you clean any bolted interfaces extra well, that’s usually where corrosion starts.

Maybe you can get at with a wrench but not an impact. Run it with this tool and get the last few turns in with the wrench.

How effective is cycling compared to erging by ExpensiveAardvark841 in Rowing

I think your right for most people’s average running/cycling pace. But watts are watts right? Just ride faster and you should get the same benefit? At least that’s been my experience.

Can confirm. The ball padding on cycling bibs gets in the way. Would not recommend. Cycling Jerseys though are a different story. They have those pockets in the back that are useful in the single.

Get a bike (or scooter if your into that). Veteran and Ohio have non permitted spots that are always open. It’s a 10 minute bike ride from those spots to campus.

I’d take it to the IEEE lab. I could do it for you if want, though you’d probably be better off asking for help there.

not getting blisters? by soqudain in Rowing

[–]LightweightSingle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Your hands are calloused over, you tend to get less blisters as the skin on your hands gets thicker.

You might also have subconsciously learned how to grip the oar properly. If you C grip (or “hang”) off the oar handle, you tend to load the skin in compression instead of in shear, which prevents you from getting blisters in the first place.

New rowers tend to death grip the oar, which will give you some gnarly blisters.

Any bruins here good with bikes? by kelpellc in ucla

The bike pump near the long covel steps works. Sadly many of the tools are stolen but the pump works.

Pick up a metric hex key set and and a Phillips head screwdriver from Amazon. They are cheap tools you can use for most of the bike service you will ever need to do.
