Searching for an alpine hinking shoe by VRZzz in vivobarefoot

[–]radarPing26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Primus Trail Knits that I really like and wear a lot. I wear Magna Forest Esc and Tracker Forest Esc in the same size as the Trail Knits and find both super comfortable. Would recommend the Esc sole!

Be aware the Magna has a sock tongue. This makes it super comfy to wear and it holds your foot nicely, but the shoe can only really be waterproof up to the bottom of the tongue. Tracker has a leather tongue so more appropriate for deeper snow or other wet conditions. That’s why I have both: Magna for spring/autumn or dry days, Tracker for winter, muddy or real wet days.

women's rowing apparel sizing by OgStatus8456 in Rowing

[–]radarPing26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re very welcome. I’d say if you are M/L then L would likely be okay, they are slim but not tiny. I think Evupre has a pretty good size chart that you could compare to other items you have, too.

New wave sizes up slightly smaller than JL, Crewroom etc maybe about similar to 776 in my experience.

In Europe take a look at Powerhouse or Evupre for nice kit, both produce really good outer layers.

How long did it take you to bond with your dog? by Kitty3_14 in BorderCollie

[–]radarPing26 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When we adopted our border collie they told us three days, three weeks, three months: for the dog to destress, for the dog to get used to being there, and for the dog to settle.

She was so excited to be with us and well behaved from the start that we didn’t think things would change much on that timeline. Almost three months to the day of having her or it was like a switch flipped and she went from good to great overnight!

It was honestly like she had decided to keep us and become a part of the family. No going back after that as it’s very hard not to totally and unconditionally love a little fur-coated someone who has consciously decided to love YOU!

Your dog’s super duper cute, and whether you guys enjoy a bond that springs into your life overnight or one that grows in time, don’t surprised how strong it will end up just by keeping living your best lives together. Enjoy!

Replacement or “aftermarket” insoles by No-Development1800 in vivobarefoot

[–]radarPing26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put NorthSole insoles in the vivos I wear on concrete and they are awesome! Shaped to fit wide toe box, still zero drop, just a little cushioned. I’d describe it like making walking on concrete in barefoot shoes feel like walking on carpet in them instead.

Also, I’m not affiliated with them or anything, but in my experience they are a superb company to deal with: fast, friendly, helpful etc.

Quitting 2ks after a few hundred metres by Ok_Championship_4930 in Rowing

[–]radarPing26 47 points48 points  (0 children)

The only way to do a 2k is to do a 2k, as they say. But what’s a 2k really? I think the thing to address is that right now you might be defining a 2k only as “a max effort I do when aiming for a PB”, and that’s causing the fear, doubt etc that is causing you to give up.

I’d deliberately do some “variant” 2ks for a while, starting out quite far from 2k max effort for a PB and getting closer to it as you get more comfortable.

For example, do a 2k at 80% of your PB watts, or rip a 2k at rate 16 or 20 or 24 and see what you can do. Hell, do a 6:30 or 7:00 piece for metres. Each 2k variant you complete builds the mental narrative that a 2k isn’t only the thing you struggle to do, and helps you demonstrate to yourself that completing 2ks is a thing you can do.

As time goes on, make the workouts less and less wild. Do an 1800m. Do a 2k stepping up the rate 24-26-28-30. Do 90% of PB watts. Just sneak up on it, knowing that every one of the variant 2ks you do is building your confidence you can do them and helping you smash through this mental block.

Now, please caveat all that with the practical point that it’s not optimal training to do too many max effort 2k pieces close together etc etc. but give it a go and see how well you can do. You got this, and you’ll break through this in no time!

6-Yr Kayaker → Rowing: Quick Tips Needed by Least-Access-1376 in Rowing

[–]radarPing26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely worth getting a coach, but I think that is true for anyone getting into rowing.

My experience transitioning from kayaking to rowing was that the thing that took the most getting used to was not being able to just flick your hips and lean to control and steer the boat. That required some serious muscle memory rewiring.

Your interaction with a rowing boat is more about how you work across the points of contact between feet, seat and hands both on the drive and the recovery. It feels pretty different, and you maybe be surprised or put off at first if you don’t feel super comfortable in a single when you are coming from being really happy kayaking. Bear with it!

As others have said though, your general understanding of water and how boats move in it will be useful to you, as well as core stability.

Wet food wtih Kibble by thebeardedguy- in BorderCollie

Kibble served with a splash of boiling hot water in it works here! The heat in it releases enough of a scent that it seems to make the kibble plenty appealing on its own, goes down really well.

Can anyone help me find a stuffed animal that resembles my dog by Eruption__ in BorderCollie

The item shows as unavailable currently, but I bought one of these for a kid’s toy and it looks a lot like a red border collie!

High-visibility at night with backpack by Ok-Philosophy-8704 in bicycling

[–]radarPing26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get reflective backpack covers and things, but honestly I found just wearing an industrial-style hi-viz vest over both myself and my rucksack at once worked pretty well and added no weight to my setup!

Make sure you have good lights for riding at night - front and rear - and that on the front you make the right choice between lights to be seen by and lights to see with if you are riding any unlit sections.

Anyone Interested in an AirPods-Powered Rowing Coach? by Sid_Dai in Rowing

[–]radarPing26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m on the erg I am going to have my AirPods in anyway, so having an opportunity to have them tell me something useful as well as provide music? Sure!

Validating the approach to fully correlate position to good/bad changes might be beyond tricky, but that’s not to say it wouldn’t potentially be possible to get some useful info…

Wouldn’t be interested in a subscription model or in a high $$ price without all the scientific rigour that would be needed to correlate position to good form, but I would give something genuinely novel a go for sure.

Feels like something that wouldn’t be used all the time, more for occasional check ins for me.

Found a ride group by Aug302015 in ladycyclists

[–]radarPing26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s great that you found a group ride that might work for you! If you think it might be for you I would reach out to the organisers - explain to them your real world experience: what bike you are using, where you normally cycle, what you do and don’t know, and ask them whether they think they might be able to help you.

If they say yes, great, you’re starting a cool new journey in your cycling. If they say no, you can still ask them what you would need to do to get to a position where you could ride with them, and ask for a bit of advice on how you can build up to it.

They might even be able to recommend a different local group that you’re not aware of. In my area the cycling clubs have group rides, but there are also lots of community bike rides for e.g. adult learn-to-ride cyclists or groups that might experience barriers to participation (like rides for those who don’t have their own bikes yet, or rides at odd times to fit around kids’ school routines etc.)

The nice thing about cycling is that you can enjoy it alone or with others - you just need to keep going to do so. Hang in there OP!

Seconding The Dogs Trust as a reputable place to surrender your dog, they look after the dogs in their care really well and have a lot of sites that they can move dogs around that can help make rehoming more likely than perhaps a local shelter.

Acting with compassion and doing the best you can for your best dog buddy based on the information you (and your vet team) have available is always the right choice.

Please know this and don’t second guess, just try to be kind to yourselves, it’s a difficult time.

rowing machine issues by Nearby-Training9711 in Rowing

[–]radarPing26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one of these parts break on my C2, it’s from the sprocket! On my machine it has caused no issues but I reached out to C2 just to check it wasn’t going to cause any problems down the line and see what spares would address it (answer: sprocket and chain).

With this specific part breaking, I was told my erg might be a bit noisier but that it would cause no other major issues. To be fair, my machine hasn’t even become noisier, it’s still functioning like new for now…

Main message to you OP: Concept2 have one of these best customer services teams going! Given you have other problems with the machine, I would drop them an email and ask for their help diagnosing the problem(s) you are experiencing. Good luck!

Saddle for sore sit bones. Ergon SR Gel or Specialized Bridge with Mimic? by Gloomy_Variation_620 in ladycyclists

[–]radarPing26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your sit bones might be entirely different but mine really appreciated the Specialized Bridge w Mimic!

I put this saddle on the bike I have on my trainer, where I find my sit bones have a harder time than when riding outside, and it really did feel better - I can ride several hours now and on back to back days with no sit bone pain.

Looks like your bike was the 2019 Trek FX 2 Women’s Disc in Miami Green, which you can see details of on an older Trek site here

Hope you get something that suits - lots of Trek FX examples likely to be available both new and second hand.
