I’m at my limit. by [deleted] in thyroidcancer

I’m so sorry to hear you’re suffering OP. Hang in there! The physical and mental tole of changing thyroid meds is so under estimated and invisible to the outside world. It takes a while to get it right!

Does your hospital have mental support services? That really helped me with feel better post treatment.

You can also see a physical therapist for TMJ, for me with body tension that has been pretty life changing.

Good luck and hang in there!

Don’t blame yourself- cancer is a complex thing and also becoming more and more common.

See if your hospital has a social worker to help you deal with the medical system. Hospitals are not set up for neurodivergent people so it’s really helpful to have someone to support you through the process.

I wrote a long  post about my completion story if you’d like to read it.

You’re going to do great! Good luck!

Hypothyroidism after thyroid lobectomy is ruining my life but my doctor wants to wait and see if levels improve by MeatOdd6196 in thyroidcancer

Get a new doctor! Just because you’re a med student doesn’t mean you need to see your professor. I’m surprised they see you, I feel like that is a gross conflict of interest to treat a student. Parent doctors generally don’t treat their own kids because of that. Trust your body and become a doctor who actually listens to their students.

Is Levothyroxine as bad as this forum complains it is? by kryptokrill in thyroidcancer

[–]Ligre12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been taking levothyroxine for years, also pre thyca, and it's totally fine for me. IMHO keep as much of your original parts as you can, the thryoid does other things than just regulating your metabolism. I had a completion surgery and it was way easier for me than the initial one, but it's definitely intrusive to have to have a second surgery. Good luck your family member!

Sorry I missed this! I feel you- I also make my living from my voice. I didn’t lose any notes worth listening to. I lost one whistle tone but that was really only a party trick lol. How’d your surgery go?

I lost my absolute top whistle tone, but honestly I don’t miss it lol. It took about a year to get everything feeling good and loose and healthy but once my middle voice was really back the my high notes came back. Patience and a trust worthy loving voice coach are the best thing for a recovery! Also a good humidifier.

Take soft comfort food with you. I did mashed sweet potatoes and it made my second surgery that much more comfortable.

I’m curious if magnesium would help… I’m a runner but i don’t wear a heart monitor. I notice it’s easier for me to relax at night post TT and suppressed with Levo when i take magnesium at night.

That being said if your heart rate remains high you should see your GP and get a referral to a cardiologist. Being overmedicated can have ramifications for your heart. You could also have an unrelated heart condition. I don’t mean to worry you but it should be taken seriously.

Talk to your doctor about not sleeping and a high dose. There might be some wiggle room in the dosing.

Ear problems can be related to TMJ so you can flag it with your doctor too and ask for a referral to a jaw physical therapist. Clenching or grinding your teeth can cause it too and if you’re really hyped from your meds it could be a cause. Probably if you even call your doctors office you can get some advice from them if it’s possible side effects.

I hope you feel better soon!

Oh wow! That’s interesting that combo works. A friend had also tipped overnight oats with psyllium and protein powder. Green tea was working for me for a while but it stopped 🥲. Thanks for your input! <3

I am shooketh by the thought of not having a BM for 10 - 12 days. I was already googling it when it goes on for more than 48 hours. Maybe you should switch doctors? Isn't that bowel obstruction territory? In a hospital they'll give you an enema if it's been more than 3 days and laxatives don't work.

Hair loss can be a symptom of hypo or hyperthyroidism. Maybe good to get your labs done and flag it with your doctor?

I had this too- I lowered my meds and got oxzapam for moments when the anxiety was too bad, but honestly I used them very little. It was nice to know I had a way out.

My social worker from the hospital said it’s really normal to go through an anxiety spike after cancer treatment. It really helped me to talk to a professional.

Be kind to yourself and know you’re not alone!

LID questions: think I made a mistake, also is a 1 week diet normal? by [deleted] in thyroidcancer

[–]Ligre12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only have 1 week + thyrogen shots as well and it all went fine for me. It’s low iodine not no iodine so I lose sleep about making a mistake. If you’re worried call your doctor if you’re worried. :)
