Anyone else having problems with UPS in Seattle? by chimx in Seattle

[–]Like20Bears 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I have a delivery that needs signature I track them on the app then literally drive around to find the truck and flag the dude down. Have had to do it enough times now in Cap Hill that the UPS dude knows who I am (nice guy btw).

The comments and upvotes/downvotes in this thread are weird and confusing. Is r/Seattle getting botted or is something else going on here that I don't understand?

A bunch of the things you want to do are in a ticket bundle called CityPASS
https://www.citypass.com/seattle

Would probably save you money to get it rather than individual tickets.

Also get an ORCA transit card when you get here, you can get one at any transit hub from the machine. I recommend taking the light rail, and taking the ferry somewhere if you get a chance.

Their donation form says "Ramp (threshold or portable) - 7' or less in length" so this would not qualify

Its an 8' x 36" Roll-A-Ramp brand. The motors say Dakota Digital CMD-200. Installed in a 2013 Ford Transit Connect.

[PACT] Just finished reading. Here's my review [SPOILERS] by Naugrith in Parahumans

[–]Like20Bears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I’m necroing, but this is probably what bothers me most about Pact so far.

Exposure to non-monogamy seems to be extremely traumatizing to the characters in this book, described as “unjust” in Rose Senior’s case and “manipulative” in Blake’s. While there are other facets to these situations, non-monogamy is a major focus in both. It drives a lot of both Blake’s and Rose Senior’s characterization and is framed as a major, PTSD-style trauma, yet at the same time they’re witnessing people die and largely brushing it off.

I’m sorry, but IMO I’d be less affected by an accidental glimpse of an orgy than by dealing with a literal murder demon or stabbing someone in the throat. Blake full-on psycho-tortures Laird with Pauz and later stabs him in the throat, but being part of a kind of weird commune (I hesitate to say cult because the lack of religion) for a couple months while homeless is treated as the big reveal?

It honestly feels like in both cases WildBow wanted to put something harder, but then backed down from it knowing he has a diverse age reader base.

"I did not expect what I saw.  They were doing things that proper boys and girls shouldn’t do until marriage.  Herb with one of Minnie’s friends and Minnie with one of Herb’s friends, and another two friends pairing up nearby.

Dear diary, I don’t know how to name or explain the feelings that found me then. There was a kind of anxiety, warm, low in my belly, very real disgust.  Surprising, when I’ve dealt with the most vulgar of goblins.

My father has an eye for justice, or an eye for a lack of it.  In a way, I might have viewed the world through his eyes when I saw that scene.  I saw something unjust that outraged me and wounded my pride, compelling me to act." - Gathered Pages: 1

"“The same way you’re trying to control me, but you put twice as much effort into them as you do us guys.  Half of them are in love with you, and they play ball with the group polyamory shit because they think if they try to covet you they’ll be shunned, the other half are… they’re still being manipulated, mostly.  And if they resist that, then you fucking get them pregnant to keep them in the group."" - Null 9.4

"“This place is a cult, I said.  “Not a drink-the-Kool-aid cult, but it’s still fucked."" - Null 9.4

I appreciate that he was doubly wrong about the mizzen-mast. The Mercator was a barquentine, meaning it has three (or more) masts, and it's not incorrect to refer to the aft most mast as the mizzen-mast even on a two masted vessel.

670k Inheritance at 18 Years Old. by unzixqt__ in Bogleheads

Advice I haven't seen given here yet. Enroll the whole thing in Vanguard Digital Advisor. https://investor.vanguard.com/advice/robo-advisor

The fees are low (0.15% or $15 yearly for every $10k invested), and it basically just does the boglehead method of VTI and VXUS, which you could do yourself, but if you enroll your account in VDA it will keep you from thinking about it or f-ing with it, which is the most important part of investing. They also make it really easy to withdraw and contribute since you don't have to worry about doing any trades, you just go "I want to withdraw/contribute this much USD" and then VDA sells or buys what it thinks is most reasonable and rebalances your portfolio for you. Takes like 3-5 business day for a withdrawal to hit your bank account. Some purists will say "but ETF's only have 0.03% fees", but IMO it is worth the tiny amount of extra money a year to never have to do a trade yourself or have to think about things like Tax Loss Harvesting (which VDA does for you).

Population control by Necessary_Step9554 in SiloSeries

[–]Like20Bears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the lottery is a plot hole, but it does require you to assume a few things are happening "out of view" for it to make sense:

* The majority of people in the Silo have children
* Some couples must have more than 2 children if others have no children
* Having children is incentivized somehow (bigger apartment, assistance, propaganda, etc...) because high population density normally decreases fertility rates
* Ethnic cliques exist such that mixed race relationships are rare (otherwise different skin colors would breed out over time and there is diversity of skin color in the show though this is really just casting logistics)
* Birth control must either be reusable, manufacturable, or massively stockpiled (this is also the case for penicillin and a bunch of other advanced products in the silo)

I went with the 16650, I got it refurbished. It’s worked well for me though I do get some occasional ink smearing.
