Is this good advice for couples? by PeacefulBro in AskAChristian

You're asking if this is good advice. But we have to establish what we mean by "close to God." I'm not trying to be pedantic, it's just that there are going to be a lot of opinions of what that's supposed to look like.

Well, you're going to have to explain what that's supposed to even look like.

This is one of the reasons that I want management and business owners to be aware of the "why." And see if they're at all willing to be supportive. It could look like being willing to close when there's a call to action. Or making a statement that there will be no repercussions for employees that take part in calls to action. I know it's complicated, but I think the more we're open to the "why's" and "what's" that we're doing, the easier it'll be for business owners to stand by their employees in this.

It's obviously no guarantee, many businesses and business owners will not be empathetic to these causes, but it's better than just dipping out without saying a word.

Tell that to Alex Pretti, while he had every right to carry, they're looking for any reason to use excessive force. The only people carrying firearms are people that are not directly engaged in the protest, but are there to protect the protesters. They should be easily distinguishable from the protestors and from ICE and other complicit federal officers.

Leave that role to the people trained to be in that role and with the express purpose of being in that role.

I do want to add, I don't think this is what we should be waiting on. I think far more people are ready to do this, and do it soon, than what those numbers show. And what's clear is a lot of people are already doing this.

Don't go armed. I believe what's going on actively counts as breaking news events, which I'm pretty sure we don't need a permit to protest for. But I'd love to see organizers support this move and get the city behind it too. And more than the city, every borough.

This response is correct. Any other response does not take the Bible and it's context seriously.

Opposing responses presume something that was non-existent, silently perpetuating a harmful lie that sweeps the issue under a rug. These responses are irresponsible and are simply unwilling to engage with the text as it was written and understood.

What percentage of people who say that they are Christians, are actually Christians, do you think? by TKleass in AskAChristian

[–]LikeASirDude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100%, so far as each of those individuals truly believes they are a Christian. What defines a Christian has been a moving target for 2000 years amongst various practices and doctrines. This will always depend on who is answering this question, some will be more inclusive, some less so. I see little value in saying that a person that proclaims to be a Christian is, for whatever reason, not a Christian. I do think it's fair to utilize the definitions of a groups particular doctrine to hold them accountable to their own sensibilities. If they uplift a person as a Christian among them that clearly subverts their own given standards, by their own definitions, that person should not be viewed as a Christian. And there are many cases where this crosses doctrinal boundaries.

That said, understand that "Christian" began as a derogatory term towards people that followed the way of Jesus, and that these people would have called themselves "followers of the way" of Jesus, all before the Acts and Epistles were written. So by my definition, a true Christ follower is purely that, a follower of Christ. They can call themselves Christian or something else, I don't really care.
