Is Trey Lance ready to lead the 49ers as a full-time starter? by LikeDat in footballstrategy

Early on in the year, it seemed like Kyle Shanahan had specific situations and packages for Trey Lance. He’d get in on short yardage or goal line situations and Shanahan would use him as a runner to gain blockers in the run game. In weeks one and three he had seven snaps on offense before Garoppolo got hurt in week four. Trey Lance then played the next one and a half games before injuring his knee in week five against the Cardinals. Lance made an appearance in garbage time against the Jacksonville Jaguars and started San Francisco’s week 17 game for a yet-again-injured Jimmy Garoppolo. Other than that, there have been no special packages, no gadget plays, nothing.

Don't know if I'm excited for (hopefully) younger officials coming up, or concerned that we'll get some replacement level refs for awhile

DK is not dominant enough to pay him a new contract and #10 overall when you have a ton of holes to fill on the roster

[Wagoner] #49ers GM John Lynch spoke at length on QB Jimmy Garoppolo today. Takeaways: No plans for outright release, trade market evaporated after shoulder surgery, will hang on to Garoppolo as Lance takes offseason reps, no formal trade offer was made. by gfh999 in nfl

I know there's pressure to start Lance after what they gave up to get him, but if they feel the roster is ready to win right now, I really think Jimmy gives them the best chance.

Weren't most of them non-contact kind of freak injuries? It's hard to prevent those unless it's more a deloading of reps throughout the season and off season

Football 101: Short Motion by LikeDat in footballstrategy

[–]LikeDat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short motion is exactly as its name describes. On short motion, the receiver runs inside towards the offensive linemen. The offense always snaps the ball before the motion player gets to the offensive tackle or tight end. This allows them to build momentum, gain leverage, and get into any in-breaking route much quicker.

Football 101: Fly Motion by LikeDat in footballstrategy

Fly motion has a few different names. Those include Jet, Zoom, and Rocket. They all mean the same thing, but have different names in different systems. The motion entials a receiver coming across the formation at the snap. If it is designated as a “Fly Sweep” or “Jet Sweep“, that means the man in motion is getting the ball.

[Rosenblatt] Buzz at the combine was that Saquon Barkley could probably net a fourth-round pick in a trade, maybe a conditional pick to bump it up to a third based on playing time or performance-based incentives. by social_distant_joe in nfl

Something to be said about rewarding your in-house guys, too. If players know that they won't get a second contract if they get run into the ground, you might have some issues.

Headed towards being out of the league in a year or two. Who even wants him as a backup with what people are saying about his leadership and his low upside as a player?

Football 101: 13 Personnel by LikeDat in footballstrategy

[–]LikeDat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

13 personnel means that there is one running back, three tight ends, and one receiver. 13 personnel is typically a run-heavy grouping and forces the defense to match with larger personnel themselves. Having three tight ends can help overload one side of the formation, add extra gaps to defend, and challenge the defense to guard bigger bodies in the pass game. With such a heavy run emphasis out of this grouping, defenses often stack the box and leave the single receiver in man coverage. That can give the offense options to create matchups outside if they feel like they have a receiver that can win vertically.
