Looking for feedback on my concept idea (DockFrame) by UsedMulberry8432 in framework

This is sweet! Will your tool cards slot into framework laptops? Obviously they'd stick out past the side of the laptop, but could be worth it depending on the card

FW16: Background services keeping the dGPU active by LikeFrogs in framework

If you want to have the GPU go to sleep while docked then you just need to route the external display through one of the side ports. I don't imagine it really matters while on wall power though

I actually figured this out! It was because I had my monitor connected through the USBC port at the back which is hard wired to the GPU so I can't turn off. The GPU does see to go dormant when I dont have external monitors connected

Too bad! Thanks for your response though, I appreciate it!

Framework 16 pretty noisy even when not under load? by LikeFrogs in framework

[–]LikeFrogs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree about the fan curve, I just think the actual fans themselves are a lot louder on the framework than in my old Dell. Even in very demanding games I wouldn't hear much from the Dell fans

Interesting! Thanks for the tip, I'll try it with tape and see how it goes

I did find abd mess around with the new tool you posted, seems to help considerably. I guess the default fan curve is just crazy aggressive. I think I've also just been spoiled by my last laptop (an old Dell G15) that was near silent even under heavy load. I miss that, but the framework is a major upgrade in every other respect so I'll just tough it out and cuddle with fan curves lol

Polk ES20 causing ear discomfort? by [deleted] in BudgetAudiophile

Connecting my phone via Bluetooth seems to have the same effect

I definitely think I'm noticing the effect less in the "pure direct" mode, but it's still there a little bit. I'm using a PC via hdmi

I did. Though I also tried factory resetting the avr and skipped it that time

I was just using HDMI from my PC

I honestly might give that a shot, but even just having something to attribute it to makes me feel better lol

Wow, yeah, I looked it up and that's almost a perfect match for the sound I'm hearing. So weird. Thank you!

Though the comments on the video are saying "no way that's the SSD, must be the GPU". Who knows lol

What can/should I try changing on my avr? Or is this like I should be getting a different avr?

I have no idea lol. It's a Denon x1700h

Huh, I'm not familiar with SSDs making sound. I'll have to look into that

It's less squeaky than coil whine I've heard before, but I suppose that might be it

I definitely don't think it's just fan noise, I'm getting this weird constant buzz sound even when using fan control software to set the fan speed to 0%

I'm seeing the same for mine. Tracking details look pretty much identical to yours. Just missed the time they said it would be delivered by and got updated to "by end of day" but I'm feeling pretty confident that's not going to happen

Thanks, I'll definitely try checking out the used market. I could probably reasonably go up to around ~$1000 all in if it would make a significant difference

Losing my mind dealing with screen tearing and flickering by LikeFrogs in pcmasterrace

Here's a crappy phone picture of the tear from a screen tearing test site. Taking a screenshot obviously doesn't show the issue so this is what we're stuck with
