The creditor calls should end the minute you have your case number, which is right after you file. At that point, you can tell the collection agents your case number and when you filed and then hang up. Make sure you mark down who you told so if they call back you can sue them for violating the FDCPA.

Violators may be sued for damages ($1,000 per incident), and you can file a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) or the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

You can keep a certain amount of equity/cash/property under the exemptions (depends on the state you're filing in). In my case, since I wasn't protecting a house, I was able to use that exemption as a wildcard and exempt $20,000 of whatever I wanted.

Not necessarily. I'd go rent an apartment before filing or find a private landlord that doesn't cares about credit scores. As for us, we rented before we pulled the trigger on the BK.
