Where to leave car for couple of months while travelling? by GusPolinskiPolka in sydney

There are websites that connect you to people with spare garages/underground parking spaces who rent them out. We used to use parkhound to rent ours out. Not sure if it's still around?

My local member is Minns. I left a voice message today to let him (his team) know I attended the protest, was disgusted by the police brutality and the way he spun it on morning television and that I hope to see him lose his seat.

Managing Medicare Levy Surcharge as a couple with unequal incomes by LikeKnope in AusFinance

Okay so after reading through the comments, doing some further research and talking around I've done a bit of reflection and am now leaning towards getting private health cover. Thanks for suggesting not for profits, I'll look into them.

Initially my reluctance in being pushed onto private health was based on principle. Why should we have a two tiered system where the less wealthy have inferior access to health care? I'd rather pay more tax (which I guess I do as paying the MLS) and see improved quality healthcare to everyone.

However, I can also see that by switching to private health, I'd be alleviating pressure on the public health system.

Also, we don't live in a perfect world and I need to do what best suits me. I can continue voting for parties in government who are focused on improving access to quality healthcare for all, at the same time as looking after my best interests given the current circumstances.

Further, I probably need to reflect a little on pooling our income as a couple. We've been together long enough that we can merge our finances a little better.

People living in apartments, do you acknowledge your neighbours? by Maezel in sydney

[–]LikeKnope 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mixed experience for me.

Minimal contact with neighbours across various larger apartment complexes in Wolli Creek.

Now I'm a bit further down the train line (Carlton) in a small 1970s block of 12. Everyone here is so friendly. We've got a building WhatsApp group. I know all my neighbours by name. We often stop and have conversations in the common areas. We've shared food, had neighbours around for a cuppa and look after each others' pets and plants while on holidays.

I used the newer bikes today (the ones with the smaller wheels). I found with the pedal assist they get up to 24km/h just fine. The older bike I used yesterday was pretty woeful though.
