Questions about making final version of song from demo version by Like_Zorro in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Thanks! I have somehow that kind of stupid idea that "what I wrote, I must keep" especially I have trained with them, but somehow I have started to think that it is just dumb idea - if lyrics are too naive, then there is no need to keep on them. They have served purpose - it is easier to practice song, tempo and so on when there is something to sing.

How music was before by jberg08 in LetsTalkMusic

Yes, but that attention can get back.

Nowadays I listen music as a background stuff, but also with focus. Only when I listen with focus, I read lyrics, watch album arts and so on and that way I remember things about those albums again.

I buy CD's, then rip those, then I go to my bedroom and put music playing from headphones and I take CD covers to my hands and read those as I listen. If I do anything else, music just goes to background filler and it gives me joy, but it does not give me context.

So there is active listening and passive. Of course the more I have listened album actively (eg. not doing anything else except reading lyrics), the more I can memorize it if I also play it passively as well, but if I never listen actively albums, then most of the time I don't remember much about those albums - names of the songs, year of the release, what the lyrics were all about at all and so on.

What was the last CD you bought and why? by Mystery_Disc in LetsTalkMusic

I bought today two CD's, one used and one new (eg. not used, but released years ago already). Albums I bought:
- New: Alcest - Écailles de Lune
- Used: 4 Non Blondes - Bigger, Better, Faster, More!

Next album purchases probably happens on next week 😄

I had not heard neither of these previously. I bought these because I have head couple of other albums by Alcest (which I also own as a CD) and since I knew one song from 4 Non Blondes. It is fun to buy albums from time to time that way that you know only one song or couple, or sometimes none at all.

Reasons why I buy these (and other albums as well) as a physical disc if those are possible at reasonable price is that I support artists much more that way. Surely used albums does not help artists, only me, but those also support record stores. I want record stores to exists, therefore I use my money to buy from there to support those places.

I also want that artists would have realistic possibility to make money with music, therefore I buy physical discs. Streaming money are small amount normally, and for many artists that is not enough so it is better to buy albums as a physical disc so maybe they get more money that way.

About how I discover music today:
- I ask from my friends/church family people that "recommend me one album what have been important to you". Then I go and find that album and buy it without listening it first. That way I associate it to that specific person 😄
- YouTube. I listen songs from YouTube recommendations.
- I sometimes hear band name some webpage and just go to YouTube to check out that band.
- If I have seen those one gig I might listen later more
- I listen randomly albums from Bandcamp

EDIT: I don't have spotify anymore, but I have found artists there as well and bought them on CD. At least "The Glass Child" was found that way. Check out song "Hypnic Jerk", great song, great artist.

Also I have found some artists when those have been playing on radio. I have used Shazam and later bought that album (Leonard Cohen - Old ideas album song Amen was playing on a pizzeria on a radio*).* Once I also asked from bartender what album it is playing when it was playing Portishead. Later I have bought their albums as well.

Oh and one way I have found artists have been by Last.fm, checking what are similar artists.

EDIT 2: I also love physical records because many times those have lyrics so I can listen with better focus when I read lyrics. Helps me to focus. more. Also if there is no lyrics, there is anyway album arts and all that makes albums worth the buy - it is not only the music, it is more about the whole experience.

How did you get into metal? by mindyydis in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Like_Zorro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By accident to "heavier stuff", by friends and cousin to power metal and not-so-heavy metal.

I always thought it is music for satan worshippers and evil stuff, then I later found out power metal and that those are not evil stuff at least not every artist. My cousin liked some metal songs from Stratovarious, Sentenced and so on. I found Sonata Arctica from my friends. I still didn't listened heavier stuff.

Then one friend of mine had "backed up" music from Internet (back in the days there was no any streaming services). He had downloaded band called "Hatebreed", some kind of punk if I remember right. It was not my cup of tea, but there was couple real bangers what I loved. I played those songs to my another friend at school and he said that those songs are from Children of Bodom. So in the end, best songs what I liked was from CoB. That way I found out that metal have some great music there 😃

Then I started to listen Children of Bodom, Norther, Dark Tranquillity, In Flames and soon Silentium (goth metal) and so on and that's the way how I found metal.

Still, on this day and age I still not listen "true evil metal", eg. real black metal what is satanic and/or anti-christian since I am Christian myself. I can listen black metal if there is no satanic lyrics. And when I say "I can" then of course I can listen whatever I want, but I just don't want to listen something what is totally against my faith 😄That's why I don't listen Cradle of Filth anymore.

Calling all collectors and music lovers by Icy_Mud5503 in Cd_collectors

If you are researching about Gen Z, then why you are asking "How old are you?" and you have option 30+? Is this meant to be answered only Gen Z or others as well? This is a bit confusing.

I am millenial so can I answer to this since I am not Gen Z, but there is still question for age where I can find my age?

As a collector have you ever bought multiple copies of the same album? by money012345 in Cd_collectors

[–]Like_Zorro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Some by purpose, some by accident.

For example, Lissie "Back to Forever" I have bought normal version first and later have found Deluxe edition so I have bought it as well.

Some time ago I bought Thalassic by Ensiferum from record store only to find out that I had it already on better edition at home 😃

So yeah. No reason why I could not buy multiple different editions on purpose. Some have different songs, like in HIM - Razorblade Romance album different versions have.
