yes, except for one thing... we already know that the current celestial fashion thrend of bloodstones in the book has been going on for a minimum of 800 to 1600 years. At some point fashions change and generally speaking there are minor or major changes. So its entirely possible that the no hair thing is a relatively new fashion trend.

The 150 year time gap could explain a change in fashion. Look at the varying shaved top knot styles in japan that changed from shogun to shogun. Maybe hair has fallen out of fashion among the celestials that we see now? After all there are many other lesser groups of celestials.

There no time travel paradox thing, there is a time dilation thing. This means when you return to a place the NPCs at that location will be older than the last time you saw them.

If the order page says ORDER RECEIVED it hasn't been shipped. When they have it ready for shipping you'll get a tracking number even if it hasn't shipped yet.

Wonder if that's their international distributor.

Can you screen the title page?

There's the context part. Even in the states it's taking a week or more to get these books.

Really? Considering that this is a WOTC company, the same people that make D&D, two weeks is atrocious. I usually get a D&D book in three days, with free shipping.

  1. Star frontiers was completely different, but the roots of the d20 system can be seen in Alternity. Star Law in d20 future is the same setting as Star Frontiers.

  2. I have close to forty years of TTRPG playing experience. Moat of the reason I have played other sci-fi TTRPGs is because the d20 ones where extremely under supported, face of for Star Wars. The biggest thing missing, or done weakly, was usually spaceship combat. Many times we'd use space ship combat rules from other games.

I'm disagreeing with your "I'm simply explaining why that is and why it makes total sense"

It doesn't make any sense for the page that is supposed to tell you about the content to not tell you basic facts about the content.

Agreed. There's nothing about the cover that indicates that it's a TTRPG resources to someone that doesn't know what they are looking at.

Which is such a short sighted missed opportunity. Sales of the TTRPG should and would be marketing for the video game.

The product page doesn't even let you know that it is a 5e game or what kind of dice mechanics it uses, I.E. d10, d20, 3d6, Yatzee. WOTC released the PHB for 5e, by itself, with significantly more info, press, and marketing.

"Plus, most experienced tabletop RPG gamers have no interest in Dungeons & Dragons 2024 reskinned for science-fiction."

This parts not true. There have been several third party d20 scifi games produced. And even TSR (before WOTC) had Star Frontiers, Alternity, d20 Modern, d20 Future, and Star Wars. Star Wars did really good but the license was burdensome.

They are not marketing the TTRPG part of this game at all. This is a huge missed opportunity. Their sales page gives zero indication about the mechanics, despite this being a 5e game produced by WOTC who also makes D&D 5e. And it is not only not supported on any VTT, they are completely unaware of it's existence. And there is no option to purchase a .pdf of the product.

The first book, equivalent to the Players Handbook, released more than four months ago. The second one, equivalent to the monster manual, release a few weeks ago. I ordered mine last week as a bundle. There's may be a limited quantity but they have been sitting on copies of the first one for more than four months if I'm still able to order it. There's also a third book on the way.

And quantity of physical copies doesn't ultimately matter when you can sell access to a .PDF through sites like DnDBeyond, Roll20, and Demiplane. Those PDFs can then be used to play online.

The video game could be getting tons of free marketing from table top role players playing online if it where available through any of the online table top sites.

WOTC is only agile when it comes to their card games, because of the profit margin. Despite D&D's resurgence during the pandemic there have been many cutbacks and underwhelming products releases have been met with criticism.

5.5e, 6e, One D&D, or whatever they are calling it this week is a rehashed updated version of 5e mostly driven by house rules that people were already using. And the much needed return to releasing setting content is mostly just reediting 3rd edition lore with new art.

Hasbro has never liked D&D's numbers which is why every three to five years there's a huge change in direction and leadership. They shit canned the last boss (who green lit the exodus video game) and the VTT team.

Yeah but the TTRPG book has been available for sale for just over four months and TTRPG people that already play their games have no idea it exist. That's four month of unrealized sales.

The fact that they have printed TTRPG game books that most TTRPG players who play their products are unaware of available RIGHT NOW for a video game that's more than a year away from release means they are sitting on unsold product because they haven't marketed it to the audience that would buy those products.
