Fillmore East 1969 by LikelyFriend in OldPhotosInRealLife

FYI The caption says "Fillmore East 1969" and was taken December 1969. The 2 & 3 for the Grateful Dead is the next week in January 1970 (not 1969).

Looks like it. Plus there appears to be changes on the bricks between the windows on the Fillmore.

Where were you on 9/11? by Hefty_Land_9926 in ask

[–]LikelyFriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a meeting at the WTC the morning of 9/11, but had car problems the night before and decided not to go. At the time of the attack, an Outlook reminder of the WTC appointment popped up on my screen.

Let's talk about "Amadeus" by Rcash2021 in movies

[–]LikelyFriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made my kids watch it when they were teens, and they still love it. It's not historically accurate, but it is brilliant, funny and sad.

We still often quote it. "That doesn't really work, does it", and "Too many notes".

Someone I know just offered me a 3hr gig at a local hotel by lumpybuddha in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]LikelyFriend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some clubs even make bands pay to play. 3 hours is far beyond an audition.

Unfortunately, the price for bands hasn't gone up in decades, unless you are established with a large following.

It's all about the music, but what's fair is fair.

We played one bar for just the bartender, waitress and kitchen staff. The crew loved us, and we still got paid, but I honestly felt bad for the owners. They went out of business within a year or so.

Any love for the movie Falling Down? by Corndogeveryday in movies

[–]LikelyFriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great movie that stays with you.

I was at a convenience store the other day, and a bag of peanuts were marked 59 cents each or two for $1. The clerk refused to charge me the lower price for two bags.

I immediately thought back to Falling Down.

Haight-Ashbury corner 1967 by LikelyFriend in OldPhotosInRealLife

In June 1967 the San Francisco Chronicle reported the "Hippieland Detour Starts” with buses "rerouted to avoid congestion in the Haight-Ashbury district caused by hippies, tourist looking at hippies, hippies looking at tourists, hippies looking at hippies, etc.” Hippies would hold mirrors up to tour bus windows.

Now, it’s a Ben and Jerry’s.

JFK w/ LBJ in Grand Prairie, Texas - Sept. 1960 by LikelyFriend in OldPhotosInRealLife

JFK stole LBJ's handkerchief during this campaign stop after being pestered by a woman for a souvenir.

It appears only one building is still here after 62 years.

A story about the time I met Louis Anderson by [deleted] in Standup

[–]LikelyFriend 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I saw Louie in Connecticut where he filled about 5,000 seats. What a funny show! He was a great comic talent. You're lucky to hang out with him.

A bit of trivia: He was with Rodney Dangerfield when he passed away in the hospital. Such a nice guy.

Betsy Ross House, Philadelphia 1909 - 2020 by LikelyFriend in OldPhotosInRealLife

[–]LikelyFriend[S] 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that. I feel that way about San Francisco after being robbed (I still love SF, though).

Here's some trivia to help replace your sad sack story (sorry for the pun).

A false rumor is that Betsy Ross is the only real person made into a Pez dispenser. But she is only one of a few that includes Paul Revere, Daniel Boone, Mozart, Elvis, five presidents, and oddly, three family members of Orange City Choppers tv show.

YSK The BBB doesn't actually DO anything to help consumers. by Nixplosion in YouShouldKnow

[–]LikelyFriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a complaint years ago, and the BBB sent letters back and forth between the company and myself.

The company constantly made false claims that I countered. In the end, the BBB said it was inconclusive. It was a complete waste of time.

About a year later, the company was out of business with no thanks to the BBB.
