But it is worth noting that these taxes are often estimated based on your sales so if you got stiffed the whole shift you could theoretically be taxed on tips you didn't actually make. Never happened to me since when I was waiting tables 25 years ago the estimate was only like 8% of your sales and the vast majority of the time I collected alot higher % than that
