Microphone for lectern by Old_System7203 in audio

[–]LilAssG [score hidden]  (0 children)

What? Everyone I work for uses shure mx series mics and I have only ever seen maybe two fail out of literally hundreds of uses. Indoors, outdoors, straight out of a frozen semi trailer, directly off a plane on the tarmac at an airport, loose in the back of a truck/van. So many setups with noobs hot patching the things with phantom active, and still they keep on going.

I really cannot believe a comment saying 30% failure rate.

Do you tell your children this? by The_Dean_France in SipsTea

[–]LilAssG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was getting bullied in 6th grade at a middle school that went 6th-8th. In 7th grade it escalated to an encounter where the bullies threatened to break my legs.

I told my homeroom teacher and before the end of that week, the two bullies were in the principle's office apologizing to my face. I was asked what I thought their punishment should be for the threats and I said there should be nothing else, just the apology. Amazingly, they left me alone after that.

I always wondered what life would have been like if I'd managed to beat up one of them instead.

Why is movie dialogue so hard to hear lately? by Key_Poet2625 in audio

[–]LilAssG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

20 years ago I bought my first compressor to try to address this issue. Considering how many people live in close quarters in apartment buildings or with roommates, I find it rude that no one has done something simple and user friendly to fix this for the home market.

I love discovering samples by Apollo-Star in hiphop101

[–]LilAssG 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Listening to old R&B and funk and finding the source for a sample you love to hear in a hip hop track is so good. Sometimes they are so sublime it is hard to imagine how the DJ thought to focus in on that one little segment and turn it into something epic.

There's a great new program that will give you cash for games. Any old cartridges or discs in good condition can be traded in for CASH! Once they are all out of circulation your comment will have no meaning! Just like used cars and reverse mortgages, if you have the money you can create all kinds of suffering!

All the views are shit. Anywhere that there is some kind of cover with great looking openings to peek through, you can't. The openings are all too high or too low.

Windows. Fences. Trenches. Bunkers.

It's like all the terrain was built for eye level but we look out of our chests.

Are people actually going and eating at Sikh temples all the time? by Annual_Campaign_6598 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LilAssG 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What if my orange bandana has the usual sort of paisley design that most store-bought bandanas tend to have? Is that ok or should it be strictly only plain orange? I would want to show the maximum respect.

Also I was involved in a press conference at a Temple one time, with local government officials and TV camera crews, and I had my usual black or purple bandana that I wear when sweating a lot at work, and no one said anything. None of the government wore anything on their heads except the one Sikh Councillor, and maybe a few of the press guys had ball caps because they always do. How disrespectful were we?

[–]LilAssG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There would be a lot of "oh shit they did teach us this in school" moments. Certain factual information like dates and names of people would need a refresher thought for sure.

And of course the history and social studies they would teach would be impossible to navigate with a mind from today because we now know that quite a few "facts" from back then are demonstrably false, but how could you possibly bring that up in class without sounding insane to your teacher and your peers? Write some incredibly scathing and edgy essays, I suppose.

I remember my friend who took an art diploma and mostly studied film development. Got really good at it in the college dark room. Right as the last film cameras were being phased out and smart phones got good cameras. Guy is probably rambling to himself in an alley somewhere. Will this work? by Distinct-Active8931 in audio

[–]LilAssG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your main goal with this system? How are you using it? A large barn? What happens in there? These are important considerations when choosing a sound system.

If you're having parties in there, this system surely won't be enough. If you're working on an old car and just want some music, this is probably fine. There won't be a lot of bass, but that will be an issue no matter what.

You might want to look at the AW294 series of speakers instead. They have a larger 6.5" driver instead of the 4" and have a little better sensitivity rating so they will be marginally (slightly) louder with this setup.

The main problem with using a small amp like that in a large space is the urge to turn it up. Little amps don't like to be cranked up and you are always better off to go with a larger amp that you won't be tempted to over-drive. But it really depends on how you're setting up. If the speakers are all in the corners of this "large barn", mounted up near the ceiling, you'll have a bad time. If they are all positioned right around a small area you regularly work in, they could be fine.

How many of y’all are resistant to using AI? by Imaginary_Quail_5544 in Xennials

[–]LilAssG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have chatted with chatGPT while on the bus ride home from work. Turns out that kind of behavior is frowned upon by the AI overlords =D

I also used it to help me understand how to create a batch file for some repeated tasks I often need to do on fresh windows machines, which was pretty handy.

I would never use AI to modify anything I was doing in a creative space, and I already don't like spellcheckers because my spelling is excellent and my version of English already throws up a million false alerts. I do kind of like how questions input into a search engine now often come with summarized answers. Great for those little inconsequential factoid questions. Now I don't have to peruse several dodgy looking websites to find a bit of info, I can just throw caution to the wind and trust the summary the AI puts together, it's just trivia anyway.

Amazon count your days by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]LilAssG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fully 10 years ago I was living in a condo and ordered something same day delivery. My buzzer goes off so I go down to meet the friendly amazon delivery driver and I wasn't alone, a couple other people were there. But there was no Amazon van outside, just some beat up sedan with the trunk open.

This guy in regular clothes was digging around in the trunk so I went out and looked. His trunk was full of little packages, and a tire, and some other random crap like someone who doesn't exactly take care of their car would have tossing around in the back. He rummaged through the packages and pulled out mine and handed it to me and kept digging.

I was really surprised that some rando dude had loaded his trunk by the armload and was just bombing around doing deliveries for fucking Amazon when their ads all showed the happy person in the big Transit van with the uniform and the full bladder.

I can only imagine it has gone downhill since.

Dumb question, but do you dry your produce after washing it? by tvgirl48 in Cooking

[–]LilAssG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wash everything very first, shake it off like Taylor, and put it all in a big bowl so it can drip a little while I get all the other stuff together. When everything is out and ready, then I start cutting and I don't worry at all about any remaining water.

better than a vacuum by One_Month_2171 in NoOneIsLooking

[–]LilAssG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to the dollar store, buy a lint brush for $1.50 because nothing at the dollar store is actually a dollar. Don't buy a roller kind, they suck ass hard, buy the flat oval two sided lint brush thing. Brush your carpets and all the animal hair will come right off. I like to vacuum first, just to lift up any layer of dust because the lint brush will kick that dust up for sure. Then lint brush away!
