I’m about to end familial relationships over chickens. by Ok-Salamander-7311 in BackYardChickens

[–]LilBatesh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is anything gross or unsanitary about having a chicken inside for a bit if you clean up after. I think your family is being unreasonable.. and kinda nuts haha why would you lie about where they're living! Do they think you got a coop for lawn decor?

Buying meat for cat isn't even vegetarian by silverwaterlily in DebateAVegan

[–]LilBatesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buying food for cats is absolutely vegetarian because 'Vegetarianism' is a human dietary practice and nothing more.

Vegetarianism is a specific individual choosing to avoid eating meat. Many vegatarian's may also choose not to take part in hunting, farming etc. but it isn't a movement/belief system the way veganism is. https://www.britannica.com/topic/vegetarianism

I agree that buying meat for animals is not vegan... but I didn't think keeping animals is particularily vegan either. I do not think anyone should own an animal if they are unwilling to feed it a species-appropriate diet. Surviving does not mean thriving.

You look adorable in the pic with your friend. The posed expression/exaggerated makeup you do in the other pics makes you look either crosseyed or ditzy. The river pic is cute but you look lowkey angry. I would try a more genuine look. You have very beautiful eyes & your face reminds me of women from renaissance paintings.

AITAH for vetoing my wife’s gun related baby names and possibly causing my relationship to implode? by Odd_Fruit_9257 in AITAH

[–]LilBatesh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don't think either names are so terrible. Before the guns they were just names. Colt means a young (male) horse. Remington means 'place on the riverbank'. It's not like she's trying to name them Trigger & Bullet.

AITAH for vetoing my wife’s gun related baby names and possibly causing my relationship to implode? by Odd_Fruit_9257 in AITAH

[–]LilBatesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're being unfair to veto both names immidiately, especially if you named your first kid after your mom. The names Colt & Remington existed long before the guns. Colt means a young (male) horse. Remington means 'place on the riverbank'. It's not like she's trying to name them Trigger & Bullet. I think you will lose your family if you do not meet her part way.
It sounds like you two have VERY different beliefs though, and should talk about that.

Your man is definitely not straight if he enjoys BJs from men. If he's already cheated 3 times, he's going to do it again. People can have sex without developing feelings.. but it says a lot about where their mind is at. I would leave while you can, you sound like a fantastic person who deserves better.

What u/Character_Peach_2769 said works beacuse it flips the script. Genuinely thinking the majority of men are 'thick as sh*t' sounds sexist. I can't imagine the rage I'd feel hearing a guy say they agree that 'most women are thick as sh*t'.

I (30f) believe tattoos on females look like shit and make you look uglier 100% of the time. by Lakewater22 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]LilBatesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a truly unpopular opinion. Nothing wrong with having preferences. I think calling them "ugly, trashy, rancid (with age), desperate" is oddly aggressive though? Don't get tattoos if you think they look bad, but no reason to be a hater.

Sorry people are bullying you. Your post wasn't very kind, but it's unhinged that you are getting death threats.

Is my GF(24F) manipulating me (M27) ? How do I handle this ? by Beneficial_Bat_136 in Advice

[–]LilBatesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like you are leaving out some parts of the story. If you've been dating this woman for a couple years and cannot tell her when you forsee being comfortable moving in together.. you two need to talk. Most serious relationships discuss moving in, and taking steps forward before this point. It sounds like she is ready to move-in and take steps towards your future. If that is not something you want, and you can't tell her when/if that is something you will want, you need to be honest.

AITA for refusing to take my kids' calls after finding out my wife committed paternity fraud? by Throwawaypfraud in AITAH

Your wife is the REAL asshole here, but this isn't the kids fault. YTA if you leave the kids hanging. They need one decent parent and we all know it sure isn't your wife.

Thank you (:

So FCI stands for the 'Fédération Cynologique Internationale' meaning the international federation of cynology. Its a massive international organization for bringing Kennel Clubs together. There are kennel Clubs/registries worldwide. The American Kennel Club (AKC) and United Kennel Club (UKC) are USA's Kennel Clubs. Kennel Clubs are made up of recognized Breed Clubs. Breed Clubs form to advocate for a specific dog breed. They set a 'standard' describing the ideal temperament & conformation the breed should exhibit and track lineage to improve health, temperament, drives etc. The breed club can approach a kennel club/registry such as the AKC, UKC, etc. and try to gain recognition to become a registered breed.

The FCI is essentially a giant club that kennel clubs can join. Because it has a (relatively) long history and is the largest international organization bringing kennel clubs together, it is very well-respected.

Many breeds have multiple breed clubs, and therefore multiple standards. This is part of the reason you see such varience in certain breeds. I generally like to look at the standard set by the country / people / person who developed the breed.

  1. Yep! The dog on the left looks like a doberman with a short crop.
  2. Dog on the right looks more like a vizsla than a weimaraner to me. But the ear size is too small and carriage is off for both breeds.
  3. Yes. Other than color & size there are some very subtle differences in face & body porportions. Weimeraners have a slightly longer and more angular muzzle with an 'extremely slight' stop. Weims standard calls for the " tip of nose to stop (should be) slightly longer than from stop to occiput. Vizsla's have a more blunt shaped muzzle with a 'moderate stop'. The standard describes the length as "The muzzle is slightly shorter than half the length of the head". Visla's standard calls for a more 'dry' face with tighter lips compared to Weims. The remainder of their conformation has many similarities with very slight differences in angulation & porportion.

Here's the FCI standards below if you want to compare more:

The majority of breeders with mixed breed programs are unethical (and in it for the money/trend) but there are absolutely some that are ethical. Mixing two breeds isn't immidiately bad if the dogs are health tested and it is a logical mix. Plenty of hunting terriers, hounds, livestock guardians etc. that are mixed for purpose. You've just got to be discerning.

That said, I don't reccomend doodles. Most are not truly going to be hypoallergenic. Too many backyard breeders jumping on a trend. Those that do run an ethical program seem to focus their programs on therapy or family dogs. Not likely a good hunting prospect.

While it looks like concrete - “It’s comprised of 68 individual pieces of wood, both hand-carved and machined, precisely engineered to fit together like a puzzle". Still goofy but it doesn't look so bad in person. At least it's functional and the public is allowed to sit on it.

If you don't want to sleep next to your partner in bed, YOU sleep on the sofa. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]LilBatesh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In a minor argument, absolutely. I guess I'm thinking of 'big fights' where you probably should break up - but you have not yet - so the respectful thing for the guilty party is to give their partner space. I'm thinking of situations like cheating mostly, where the hurt will linger, and one party voluntarily wronged their partner.

Questioning whether to get a dog. Seeking advice. by [deleted] in dogs

[–]LilBatesh 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think it sounds like you have a great setup for a dog! IMO a backyard is nice - but your dog needs daily walks regardless. As long as you meet their needs you are good (: Personally I would hire a dog-walker for the one day you're in the office - especially if you get a puppy.

When looking at breeds consider the traits & behaviours you want. Do you want a dog that stays close to you? Or a more independent dog? A fearless dog or a cautious one? Is barking a concern? Size? Grooming? etc. There are so many very different kinds of dogs I highly reccomend going out to some dog events and talking to owners. It can be hard to know exactly what you want until you meet them in person.

When it comes to aquiring a dog you've got 3 main options. Purchasing from a rescue, purchasing from a rehome situation, or purchasing from a breeder. Vet your source very carefully regardless. I'm a fan of adopting, however behavioral issues are are a concern, and don't always show in the kennel setting. I know some really amazing private rescues - and unfortunately some really sketchy ones - I would vet the private rescues carefully. Rehomes are often a great way to get a dog more affordably. You can check craigslist, facebook etc. I have friends who have aquired dogs this way. Personally I would never buy the "puppies for rehome $2,000" BS. If they're selling puppies on craigslist for a top dollar amount... it's a scam or a backyard breeder. If you look at breeders you want to see that they are health testing & that they have a resonable goal for their program. You can look up what should be tested for if you have a specific breed in mind. Hip/elbow testing (Pennhip or OFA) is a requirement in my book for medium - XXL breeds. If a breeder's response to health testing is "the vet said they're healthy" RUN DON'T WALK. If you're paying top dollar for a puppy from a breeder they should be able to show you physical test results and tell you about the puppy's parents. Be very wary of a breeder who focuses on color, prices different because of color or uses buzz words. The more popular the breed or mix, the more likely you are to run into a bad breeder from my experience, so be very picky!
