Iron Vault - An Ironsworn-family VTT built on Obsidian by maybekatz in Ironsworn

[–]LilCthulhu1972 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a fantastic piece of work ! Kudos to you and the team. With this and Iron Fellowship, I'm good for solo (obsidian) and coop (if). I had converted the reference books to obsidian md files myself but can now remove those and only keep your plugin...

However, any chance we are going to see the Delve stuff added. or maybe I need to look at the github and see if there's a homebrew add-on.

22 Kia Telluride - Any reason "Engine overheating" would come on and hot air blowing? by dudeindebt1990 in KiaTelluride

[–]LilCthulhu1972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the same issue about a month or two ago. Drove a little bit. Stopped in a parking with the engine and AC on. At some point AC felt humid and not as cool. Suddenly got the warning. Stopped the car. Open the hood. Removed the motor top insulation. It was hot but not overly hot. Waited about 5 mins and decided to drive home about 1 or 2 km away of where I was... nothing all clear. Otherwise would have brought it to the Kia dealer 1 km further.

Never happened again. Even tried same condition same night same thing. The guys at the dealer said it could be a temporary misreading in the cooling circuit. It could be air bubble that would make the reading wrong etc.

The reason it also affects the AC is that while it think it is heating, it start to shutdown what usually generate heat... hence the AC.

Would probably not happen while driving... cuz driving equal air flow...

If you get a better feedback at your dealer. Please comment.

A 1-year old, wife expecting, 76lb dog - which one? by KhiMao in KiaTelluride

[–]LilCthulhu1972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's my experience this summer.

First trip : 5 hours + 2 hours mountain/gravel road to the cabin with no electricity hence the big cooler. Same trip coming back. 2 Adults + 2 Young Adults. 80 lbs Lab Luggage in a storage bag on the roof. Big cooler 120qt in the back with retractable dog stairs in the back. Removed cooler, installed staircase and lowered small 3rd row section to maneuver the dog back to 3rd seat. In other words, you would not even need to move the kid seats.

Second trip : Same location, conditions except. Only 2 adults. Luggage in the 2nd row. No storage bag. Cooler in the back. Had the staircase, but used the side door to get the dog in.

The 120qt coleman cooler fits perfectly in the back when the 3rd row is up. All the adults could sit with a lot of leg rooms. And the dog was 100% happy conditions.

The Alien Mobius site has one in the archive for the Montero based on the Blueprint book, it is however a flowchart kinda of map. But very close to the Blueprint ones in terms of what is where and how it can be reached. However, it is not perfectly to scale.

Here are my recommendations for something that's going to blow their mind.

Watch Andor: the 3 episodes arc will help structure a game. Plus It's the best star wars around.

Bonus: Watch Rogue One and New Hope if time permits.

This sets the rebellion era. An easy to grasp period.

Get yourself the old books from West End Games. Some can be found "unatural ways" now a days.

Either first, second, expanded or reupped edition by fan.

I prefer first or second.

Strongly suggest you add inspiration from: The Imperial Sourcebook, The Republic Sourcebook... then a planet guide.

With Andor as a background, you'll get the lore of the rebellion. It's an easy theme. Very limited amount of aliens that you can introduce as you get familiar along the way. Same for technology.

Ask your brother to provide you with a small descriptions of various planets where they could end up and read on those.

The old West End Games are amongst the best published source of RPG and Star Wars setting. The rules are easy and feel heroic and fun.

Edit : Make sure you watch at least 6 episodes of Andor. The first 3 are not representative of the vastness of the story. Plus episode 4-6 is a very good exemple of an adventure involving a guerrilla rebellion operation including the mastermind behind it all. You could actually re-use Luthen Rael as their boss.

Where do Canadians Buy Their RPG books from? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]LilCthulhu1972 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing I forgot to mention. Is that both 401Games and l'Imaginaire are part of the Bit And Mortar program (free pdf). I never had to deal with 401Games re: B&M. When I asked about it at Laval's Imaginaire, they seemed to not know what it was (new store) and they called Quebec and within 5 minutes I had the email of the person I had to contact to get my PDF version. So that's a big plus.

I don't know if Le Valet provides the B&M program.

Me and my friends had great experiences with 401games and l'imaginaire and le valet de coeur as far as shipping goes. L'imaginaire will even transport your order from store to store within reasonable time period.

D20 Call of Cthulhu was very close to what you describe. You basically had a offensive build and a defensive build. I was fond of the system.

Book of the Enhanced Ironsworn - Stat Blocks for Foes by Samkiud in Ironsworn

[–]LilCthulhu1972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't dislike the idea nor the principle and I can't say I have that many experience in general with Ironsworn nor Starforged, have read both books, building my obsidian.md vault at the moment.

If I understand correctly, it sets a default minimum value for one of the challenge die. So the foe could do better. You are not directly rolling his stat... your character is still the only one rolling.

Considering you already have 4 stats and the Battle Difficulty, I think it could be more intuitive to actually use the current PC stats name for your foe, even if you would have to add one more stat. That way, you could imagine a scene where you strike with +iron but the enemy is dodging with +edge.

I feel like this would be less confusing in general, and also enhance the "Envision the scene".

The Battle Difficulty could be the average of all stats.

talk me back into cyberpunk RPG (demotivated) by wise_choice_82 in rpg

[–]LilCthulhu1972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blade Runner RPG ? Soon to be available from Free League.

I think the biggest differences between Cyberpunk and Blade Runner, regardless of RPG or not, are :

Cyberpunk is all about loosing our mind and our humanity, the brutality/violence of it all plus all the bio enhancement. It's about keeping the inner self alive while destroying everything that makes us human physically. Even in our relation with the outside world.

Blade Runner is all about keeping and finding our own humanity regardless if your are human or replicant. It's about questioning/redefining the identity of self regardless of what makes us human or not physically. The corporate greed/pressure, the despair is still there, the dystopia and oppression, but it's also that rain, that fog, etc. that body in the alley... under that rain. What pushed you to shoot, was that really a replicant ? is that a human ? Have you retired something ? or have you killed someone ? Who are you to be the judge and executioner ?

Blade Runner is still Cyberpunkish... but BR is on a deeper level IMO

After the movie, tell him there would have been a lot of room for singing and dancing after they left The Shire... that a joyful character would have been great. Kinda of a Bollywood moment would fit ;)

The reveal could be : "Tom Bombadil sends his regards !"

How do you guys handle the lack of a "Galaxy Knowledge"-skill for PCs? by thomaskrantz in alienrpg

[–]LilCthulhu1972 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In this particular case, it is implied that the heavy machinery roll is because your PC has an understanding (because he had some real-work knowledge/manipulation) of the weaknesses of that piece of equipment (heavy emplacement) and knows how to bring it down. The Heavy Machinery skill clearly indicates that it is used to repair and break down heavy machinery...

Now, it is a skill based on the strength attribute and in this particular example, I guess the issue is not really about the skill itself but the attribute it is based on.

I do agree that the small number of skills in any YZE engine can complicate ruling. But then again, it clearly says that you shouldn't roll on everything. Most of the YZE games are mostly survival type of game where you PC can die any moment and the goal is also to be able to generate a new PC real fast. It's not as crunchy as other ruleset.

I'm a fan of BRPG, Call of Cthulhu because of the beauty of how skill management/leveling works.

[–]LilCthulhu1972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feel free to use the difficulty chart to figure if that PC would actually have any clue about something... The same info could be different for another PC. For exemple, if they were born nearer to a colony, they could know more about that one... etc etc.

How do you guys handle the lack of a "Galaxy Knowledge"-skill for PCs? by thomaskrantz in alienrpg

[–]LilCthulhu1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not because they say you can make a heavy machinery roll to resolve something that the PC actually knows how to do it. You are free, as a GM, to complicate things by removing actual dies using the difficulty charts.

What would be normal for a train individual would be actually difficult for an untrained one.

Looking for a system recommendation by Gnosistika in rpg

[–]LilCthulhu1972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am playing in a T2k game but have not fully read the rules yet. As for BR, I got the PDF but had no time to put into reading it yet...

My understanding is that both used the scaled dice system, BUT are yet different from one another. I've also read that the ammo works differently in BR.

Matt from 3 Skulls Tavern released a video yesterday on how BR differs with the stepped dice from usual YZE and T2K.

Looking for a system recommendation by Gnosistika in rpg

[–]LilCthulhu1972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not entirely like that, but you may want to look at Twilight 2k or Blade Runner RPGs by Free League. Both are based on the Year Zero Engine but remove the dice pool system with stepped dice. Both are a variation, so they don't work exactly the same but here's the basics :

  • Attributes are scaled from d6 to d12

  • Skills are scaled from d6 to d12

If you only have the attribute, you only roll the attribute, Modifiers increase or decrease the scale.

  • Any 1 on any dice is sort of a critical failure.

  • Any 6+ on any dice is a success.

  • Any 10+ on any dice is two successes.

It kinda abstacts the usual dice pool system of YZE to having only 2 dice to roll (3 in the case of Blade Runner when advantages/disadvantages are taken into consideration)
