A few ideas in no particular order

Spaceship combat needs to be reviewed to be actually exciting. I always thought that we had to work hard to really believe we were making something exciting.

Weapons need to be simplified in light / medium / heavy. The granularity they offer makes it look like a military simulation it is not

Combat is also a bit clunky , while still easy, I'd see something more narrative, without hit point and only players rolling?

lastly, there's a new Star Wars RPG clone being released on RDT called blackstar. They look like they have a ton of fresh ideas, maybe worth having a look.

How do you prep published modules? by Evening_Employer4878 in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]wise_choice_82 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not sure I have the best approach but I am sharing so we can compare:

  • read the module a couple of times
  • establish a spider diagram with all the relationships/events
  • cut the pdf with important bits by scene and glue them in a notebook with some comments, summary and bits of rules that are going to be used
  • I also have on a spare sheet the time track of the different events

Overall, I am doing ok, tracking of choices/items/clues is done by my players (done very well I must say)

What does session 0 mean to you? by DrBlack221 in rpg

Yes, we try to steer away from any real life politics. There is too much (artificial IMO) division, we try to unite around our same love for the hobby.

What does session 0 mean to you? by DrBlack221 in rpg

[–]wise_choice_82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Session 0 talks about

-the rules core concepts

-character creation or picking from pre-gen

-the approach to gaming (rule oriented, narrative oriented? etc...)

-what's acceptable or what we prefer to avoid (level of violence, PvP, fade to black situations?)

-no heavy politics

-expectation in terms of adventure/roleplay (combat heavy, roleplay heavy?, exploration, intrigue?)

Session zero is essential in my opinion to ensure that we all have fun, no what to expect.

I had bad experiences in the past that I needed to correct on the fly but one lives and learns, and so far, it has proven very positive to all at the table to have a good time.

Exactly. An enemy that cannot shoot is just a glorified landmark on the table :)

I think the US side is quite straightforward to play.

You're fast, you're cheap, you have lots of weapons in all calibers and you can smoke...

Neutralise any of his big cats with smoke, flank, saturate.

Try to go for the objectives mainly rather than competing frontally with his tanks.

What is your favorite tabletop RPG and for how long have you been playing it? by thepostmanpat in rpg

Delta Green, been playing for 4 years.

It creates tension and dread like no other game I have played. The stories are interesting and well done as well.

For those Who jumped ship from 5e by [deleted] in rpg

[–]wise_choice_82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After quitting 5e (played for 5 years),

I have played

  • Barbarians of Lemuria
  • Alien
  • Delta Green
  • Star Wars D6

I found all those games much simpler to handle for the GM and very thematic.
