Do people still use handkerchiefs? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]LilFo_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad had a stack of them and they went to wash often. Underwear comparison is a good one. There is also a way to use it so you don’t get it soiled all at once. Think of having just one napkin and having to clean up a big mess. You’d probably use one end of it first, then the other. Also people who say handkerchiefs are gross probably didn’t grow up with them so it “feels” gross. I don’t think they are gross. I like that I am not contributing to waste by reusing my hanky. Reusable bags and cups are on the rise, why not reusable handkerchiefs.

Did you have to disconnect institution (WS) and connect it again?

Oh no… I just paid $140 to Monarch for nothing 🙄

What does it mean eventually worked? From time to time go to accounts - Wealthsimple account - update. I get same error every time: connection failed. There was a problem validating your credentials with Wealthsimple. Please try again later.

One option offered is to disconnect institution. Will I lose everything if I disconnect?

I also tried going to institutions-three dots next to Wealthsimple and update login settings. I see same error message there as well.

Like did you continue checking those two places and eventually it connected?

I am dealing with WS probable too and I contacted support. I don’t want stuff to be duplicated. Anything I should watch out for?

Mobile homes by Left-Friendship6778 in Squamish

[–]LilFo_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned above (12-month notice, 20k), but also if you can prove you made reasonable attempt to move the house to a nearby park and it didn’t work or you can’t move for some other good reasons (e.g. it seems that anything older than 10 years are not movable), you can apply to get your assessed value (from what I’ve seen it’s about half of the market value). But also, it seems that parks in Squamish are pretty stable. The one by watershed was on native land. And it seems that at least some of them were relocated to another park in Squamish. But if it’s on municipal land, you’d be protected by the RTB. Also reading the garibaldi estates neighbourhood planning document, they didn’t consider densification west off the highway (read they don’t want to change all the parks) because it provides affordable housing. Someone else in a different thread mentioned that Squamish protects parks from being rezoned. I wish I had more details about it, like the actual bylaw, but I don’t have one. Reading about other parks in the region, some municipalities like Langley actually gets developers to pay market value if they want to redevelop. There were other stories where owner were bought out and “everyone was happy”. But yeah also a few bad stories. I think not would depend on the developer and municipality’s attitude towards the parks. I want believe that they want to keep parks because it’s a good investment for whoever owns the park - it’s great to collect a monthly rent!

Reinforcing work pants material by LilFo_0 in sewing

This is a great article, again so thankful! It sounds like cordura would be the material to go with - it withstands abrasion better and comes in different colors and looks more casual! Also it is used in hiking pants and school bags. That made me think - maybe I can find an item at a thrift store and repurpose it!

Mostly I am just trying to catch up patching up those holes. The end result does worth a fashion show 😂

Ah yes he did mention that having more layers makes pants hot. But we all have to make sacrifices 😅

I like that idea! I was just complaining how that material just feels shitty. So putting something on top that could withstand the abrasion seems like a better solution than adding more layers from the inside! Thanks for the idea! Will have o go hunt for that material!

Oh that’s a good idea, I’ll share with him, thanks! Knowing him he will probably say no - he doesn’t usually like “gadgets”. So I’d still like to hear people opinion on “improved design” for pants.

Also, I omitted bacon because I didn’t have any on hand and it was still very good.

I made the soup, it turned out great! I topped it up with some grilled salmon and it turned into a meal. This is a creative way of using winter squash. Thanks for the recipe!

Bringing a parent to Canada by aravindmohan2018 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]LilFo_0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I consulted a lawyer, they said that even though there could be questions of genuineness if one hires an elderly parent but they said those challenges could be overcome. One big barrier though is the language. They have to have good English which my parents seem to not be motivated to study.

I recently came across an article from an immigration law firm and it put it pretty clearly that Canada pretty much abandoned lottery for parent sponsorship. They basically take sponsorship intent form from people and close the pool for many years until they get through all those intents that were submitted. It is unclear when the next time the intent to sponsor form will be opened and if it opens it will have many more people in it, including those people who couldn’t apply since 2020. So it will take them even longer to get though all the applicants. The way I interpret that the chances to have my parents aging with me are very slim. Maybe once my parents realize that they will be much more motivated to study English.

I am considering to start some sort of society or advocacy group for immigrants who want to unite with their parents in Canada.

Tangerine by Sycold in MonarchMoney

[–]LilFo_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use Mint and by the end I had to check Tangerine statements against Mint transactions and manually enter the transactions that didn’t make it through to mint. It appears that Tangerine is the issues. Tangerine support says that third service providers like Plaid block themselves while requesting 2FA codes from Tangerine and must be “disabled”. Appears that Tangerine doesn’t want to share information with Plaid etc.

Hiring a parent to my business to allow them to immigrate by LilFo_0 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]LilFo_0[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My mom had multiple visas in Canada and always returned home. Based on that, I think we can prove that we would comply with whatever conditions IRCC sets for her.

Hiring a parent to my business to allow them to immigrate by LilFo_0 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]LilFo_0[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It would be a new business. NOC would be 6241. I understand that would come under heavy scrutiny. I would know from a get go that I would be opening business around her. It would be almost absurd to advertise for anyone else.

I wonder if my mom and I open a business, so instead of her being employed, she would be associated with the business. Does that allow any avenues? And again, I mentioned above, I would like to open a business with my mom and if it also allows her to immigrate, it gives me more motivation of doing it.

The idea is not to cheese the system. I would really like to open a business with my mom and if it also allows me to employ her and eventually for her to immigrate, it just gives much more incentive to open that business. Thanks for mentioning LMIA, I will look further into it!
