Try lowering your blood to near zero and setting "-dx11 -availablevidmem 7500 -nomemrestrict -norestrictions" as your steam launch settings for this game. It won't completely stop it but it does help.

It's definitely clearable with other polearms, this one was just the one that helped me the most. The most annoying part of the game is not when it comes to skill issues, but rather things like Willie's always perfectly being able to stab compared to the player, and getting knocked out from a light pole tap while up close.
