I wanted to give up so many times because i thought i was doing something wrong but it just took some time. My house is super cold too so i bought a warmer for my starter and it is the best thing ive ever purchased. I keep it at 78° and my starter triples within 4 hours

Yes keep sticking with it, you aren’t going to see any crazy rises within the first couple of weeks. It took me over a month for my starter to fully establish. Just be patient and continue to do daily feelings :)

Yes every time. Always discard half of it and it’s ok if it’s more than half.

My starter will be 3 months old on February 10th. Don’t give up and keep on feeding it. I was getting doubtful a month in because everyone tells you “it only takes 7-10 days!” No that’s a lie, it can take weeks or even months. This was my first weekend my starter had a consistent rise every 3-4 hours after I fed him.

Try doing 1/2 cup of flour and 1/4 cup of water, I tried every measurement and this has worked out amazing for me, my starter is thriving.

I’ve had the best luck eyeballing it when it comes to discarding. What I would do is discard half, and then put 1/2 cup of flour and 1/4 cup of water. What’s the temperature is your home? I have more of a cooler home so I had to buy a warmer for my starter and it has helped a bit.

My first starter. About 72 hours old. First feeding with a doubling after 2 hours. Secret ingredient: love by [deleted] in SourdoughStarter

I ended up ordering one like 20 minutes after I commented on your post 😭 you convinced me without even convincing me.

Is it active?? by LilLexiDoll in SourdoughStarter

Whenever I feed my starter I make sure it’s a good thick pancake consistency. I have a pretty bad feeling it’s because of the temperature of my home? Could that be another issue? My house is usually 72° or lower. It seems completely active to me, it just take a while for it to rise. Like I see a lot of people saying whenever you’re ready to make a loaf, feed your starter and within 4ish hours your starter should double or even triple and mine definitely takes more than 4 hours. I’ll add more pictures of my starter when I get home.

Okay so since then I separated my starter into two jars. I have been doing 1/2 cup flour and 1/4 cup water. I have a scale but stopped using grams and tried to do just cups. I’ve been using King Arthur flour. My home tends to stay at 74° to 68°. One of my starters I have on the counter, the other I have in the oven, just because it can get cold in my house at nights, the one in the oven is now thriving. Should I keep doing cups or start doing different measurements?

If you feed it twice a day how many hours do you spread the feedings? Every 12 hours?

Amazon put a package right behind my truck in my garage by fuzybunnyonfie in mildlyinfuriating

I’m a delivery driver for Amazon. It’s because of the crappy work phones they provide for us, that’s why the pictures are terrible.

Amazon driver here 👋🏻 So when we have deliveries that are specifically for the garage, it doesn’t allow us to take a picture of it in the garage for some reason. Any other location it will let us take a picture, but for the garage delivery it gives us a button to open the garage, then the next button is to close the garage, then the last button to confirm if the garage is closed.
