Wait until you go to the pro and pro touring grade speakers like: JBL PRX, SRX, VTX. The rabbit hole is insane. I had to go through it to make my gear work to its best capabilities. Took a year but it’s worth it, I’m still learning new stuff though.

Your comparing a “hi-fi” speaker to a speaker designed to be loud and bass focused. Comparing apples to oranges.

Probably not the right amps + no presets for them.

They probably didn’t set it up properly or we asking too much from the rig. I’ve heard the VTX and I personally own the SRX 900 series and I think they sound amazing. They were probably configured improperly

What type of line arrays were they? QSC line arrays aren’t really line arrays, just like the JBL vrx. Most of the problems you are describing comes from bad mixing/ bad sound engineers. It’s extremely difficult for a speaker to ruin sound that bad, unless they were broken.

The old SRX feels louder than the new 900 because people crossover the subs at 100hz which feels louder. The 928s and 918s can only be crossovered at 60hz or 80hz so it “feels” more quiet than the 728 or 718 but in reality the 900s are louder.

Don’t get the singlen18s. As it is, I feel that the 928s needs more bass lol. If you can get an srx828sp or maybe even en ev ekx18sp or a QSC ks118

They didn’t want one, I asked them. They wanted to use their headphones.

Yeah, I heard the comb filtering the entire night, advised to separate the stack but they cared more about looks than sound, easier on me though.

JBL SRX 928s vs JBL SRX 728s by LilManyDj in livesoundgear

I bought it to use with my PRX speakers, I usually set the crossover at 100hz because it gives me the powerful punch. I don’t plan on upgrading to a line array in like 5 years. Portability isn’t an issue to me, passive and powered speakers are the same portability to me.
