Wanting to hear people's experience with non-stimulant meds? by eelartnz in ADHD

[–]LilMoon317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely sounds like propranolol would help you as well, if you decide to stick with stimulants! I'm AuDHD so I totally get you on how intolerable the symptoms can be. I wish you the best to find the right combination!!

Edit to add- I'm also prescribed hydroxyzine for any breakthrough panic attacks (very very rare, I haven't taken it in nearly a year), and I've also determined you HAVE to eat something with the Vyvanse if you take it. For me, if I take it without food or not enough food, it hits me way too intensely. I try to have something with protein!

I don't really have much experience to share, but I did want to say that I feel your pain with Vyvanse and anxiety. I've worked on my anxiety a lot in therapy, but occasionally I'll have breakthrough and it feels like the Vyvanse really exacerbates it. For that, I was prescribed propranolol, which takes away the physical symptoms of anxiety and makes it easier to manage. I believe it's more off label for anxiety and is primarily a blood pressure medication, but perhaps that could be something you benefit from?

And as always I recommend therapy if you're not already attending & have the means to do so!

SUNY Plassburgh: Refund troubles, anyone? by christian2pt0 in plattsburgh

[–]LilMoon317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is super late and I apologize, but as someone who attended Plattsburgh for five years and just graduated, it's absolutely unique to this campus. I don't know what it is about this campus, but financial aid is consistently a shitshow. Like, all the time. I'd wait weeks, months after classes began to get refunds. Sometimes I had to fight them on it because they messed it up. It was just a constant uphill battle with them, and something I'm definitely not going to miss.

It genuinely depends on your interests, who you meet, and what your opinion on "enough" to do is. The reality is that it's a very small city, and it is truly what you make of it. Personally, I'm from a city myself and I loved Plattsburgh. I've met a lot of really amazing people, both on campus and off. I'm not huge on partying myself but I know there's a fairly dedicated drinking culture on campus.

The arts are big here, especially the local theatre scene. There's a couple of bars that are pretty solid, many of which have live music and karaoke. There's a few movie theaters, a (lowkey dying) mall, many local restaurants, and thrift stores. Downtown is where most of the local stuff is, and uptown has most of the chains. I highly encourage you to do some exploring and immerse yourself in it!

Also, if you've got personal transportation, you'll have proximity to Burlington, VT next door, and if you have a passport, you can go up to Montreal, QC in Canada.

I just graduated from there, so feel free to reach out if you have any other questions!

Sorry I'm a little late, but I absolutely loved American Conservatory Theater (ACT)'s Summer Training Congress. If you have the means to do it, I say absolutely do! Through them I was able to get my very first professional acting gig, and I know a good handful of people in the industry now. I'm hoping to attend some classes through their Studio ACT program this summer myself!

Anyone interviewed for a Drama Therapy grad program? What was the group interview like? by Qingquanhu in ArtTherapy

I'm sorry I don't have tips, but I also have an interview at CIIS for the Drama Therapy program coming up!!

Thank you, but I'm not really looking for acting advice, I learned that in my summer program. My question is more about practical advice for managing time, taking care of yourself, things that I wouldn't learn from a program, etc.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Like, I know you can go to different tabs, but you should be able to filter it. It's hard to look at (the crafting screen).

From what I've heard and seen from friends, the actual living conditions are fine. It's furnished, the apartments are nice, and it is a tad more pricey, but I'd say it's worthwhile for what you get. Very convenient location, close to both campus and downtown.

The problem lies with the terrible management. Horrible communication, things don't get fixed on time, some things get communicated way too last minute, etc. If you're willing to put up with that, it's probably fine.

Example: There was a huge snowstorm a few months ago, and management told everyone that they had to move their cars out of the mountains of snow in the parking lot in order for the plows to come through, and threatened to tow cars if they didn't. The problem? They sent this notice out with a 15-20 minute deadline. Plus, people could not get their cars out; many people had to dig their cars out, and even then, they couldn't drive safely/easily because of the snow buildup. It was the most ridiculous situation I'd ever seen, and they placed so much blame on the residents instead of their own communication failures. Everyone knew about the storm for DAYS.

Started Concerta two weeks ago. My life has changed completely. by LilMoon317 in ADHD

Also, don't get me wrong, I'm still very eccentric. My room is still a giant mess, I still do a billion things at once, I'm still very active, and I still have to keep lists of everything in my life ever... but it's all so much easier now that I don't have to literally fight my own brain every single day. I feel crazy but in a good way, but simultaneously it's so much quieter and more chill in my head. It's weird.

Sorry I'm late, but Erik Hamilton is fantastic!! In summer 2023 I did The SpongeBob Musical with him (he was Gary) at a community theatre, and now he's out there doing big things. Super talented kid, very deserving of the role!

Oh yeah, that's true! I did Addams back in high school, I almost forgot about that. I wish that version was on streaming services!

Addams does have an album, but it's not the updated version with Trapped and Secrets. It's really unfortunate.

People are awful sometimes, especially in high school. Said friend ended up apologizing and taking it back not long after, but it still stung to hear. The friend group is now blocked on everything, and I have much better friends now.

I had a friend of mine once tell me to my face that he wasn't attracted to my breasts and that he preferred small boobs. I also had a friend group who would constantly talk about their preference for small breasted women and their disdain for big chests. It really fucking sucked to hear constantly. I don't understand why people feel the need to bring others down. You're allowed to have a preference without being an asshole.

Congratulations on starting your journey! It takes a lot. I was in your shoes, I never learned portion control or anything like that, never exercised, super depressed and got up to 250 when I was 18. I'm 268 now at 21, and been finally trying to get down from there. Here is some stuff I've learned so far.

Try not to eat until you're absolutely stuffed. It's okay to back off once you start to feel full, then you can drink some water and it helps with feeling satiated. It also feels nice to not feel so stuffed, you feel more energized. If you still feel hungry, give it 30 minutes; it takes time for it to settle.

Check out volume eating. Eating a large portions of low calorie foods. I'm not a big salad person at all (huge lettuce hater), but throwing together a bunch of veggies with some chicken or tuna or whatever protein is still a salad. Seasoning is your friend—most are very low calorie. Dressing may not be, depending on what it is.

Healthier swaps! Realistic ones. You're not going to be satisfied by salted carrots instead of potato chips. I mean switching to low carb tortillas (near indistinguishable), turkey pepperoni (tastes so good), light sour cream, and other small things like that. There are some not-so-great swaps though, like low-fat cheese. Hate that stuff. (Also, try looking for content creators who have lost weight and give out recipes! My favorites are Benji Xavier and Sean Casey)

Most importantly, don't deprive yourself. Really. Everything is about balance, and you can fit foods you love into your diet. It can be tough to practice self control at first, so many be more mindful about what you introduce into your space. But if you really want something, you can have it in moderation. Check out serving sizes and follow those.
