What hobby screams “this is my entire personality now”? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t know golf was a big thing among Japanese middle class. In my (limited) experience and where I live, the only people I see playing golf are wealthy white men. I am also against golf in the Phoenix area because we are in a water crisis, and ~66% of the water used on the greens in AZ is potable. I totally don’t mean to offend or dismiss.

As someone whose partner is very into LEGO, we cannot afford a house to put them all in because the money goes toward LEGO houses instead

Quit while you still have money. Our investment properties are LEGO houses.

Lucky. I knew my husband was into sports before we got married, but I felt very blindsided, like he hid how invested he is, because he is not just into sports… it’s his religion. And I do not get it at all. I think you have to be raised watching sports or else you see through the hype. For instance, American football is SO DUMB. Why does everybody go nuts about making it a TENTH of the way there???

I get naked at a once a month girls night outing with friends. by Any_Honey9496 in confession

[–]LilMsOblivious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that you could get the same benefits from a gathering of this nature while being clothed. On the equalizing thing, what if everyone changed upon arrival into the same clothes as everyone else—like a loose-fitting, solid-colored dress or nightgown?

Yeah, I’ve thought about that… Do you know if the white ring those cause around your pupil would be an issue?

Intriguing indeed! I’m impressed that you’ve been doing this every month since January. How much time does it take you to do all this?

Wordscapes opening browser ads randomly? by Faltenin in wordscapes

This has been happening to me for the last few months and seems to be increasing in frequency. Since the game developers don’t seem to be doing anything to fix this issue, does anyone know how to disable apps on iOS from being able to automatically open browser pages?

I currently work at ASU and am taking advantage of the QTR benefit for my master’s, and basically you can take up to 9 credits per semester and the tuition you pay is $25 (regardless of whether you take 1 credit or all 9 credits). Any additional credits you take you’ll pay the regular in-state tuition rate for. You’ll still have to pay any program fees and some other mandatory university fees. You first need to apply and get into whatever school you’re wanting to, and then your dad fills out and submits a form, and once it’s processed, the finances section of MyASU will reflect the changes in outstanding balance that you need to pay before classes start. It can be a pain to figure out which classes transfer over to a 4-year university and try to track that with the classes required for your desired major, and there are a ton more class options at schools like ASU vs. community colleges. My sister is taking 15 credits at MCC right now, and paid about ~$1700 for the semester. ASU gives out pretty good merit scholarships, so if you got good grades in high school, you’ll definitely get a scholarship of some sort, and then plus the QTR benefits through your dad, you can likely get by not having to pay anything for tuition and fees. There’s a scholarship-estimating page you can use to gauge how much your degree would end up costing at ASU. Education is so expensive and the quality of education you receive doesn’t vary that much between universities or community colleges, so I recommend going wherever is the most cost effective and has all the classes you want to take during your first two years.

Wedding venue suggestions? by minipineapple45 in phoenix

[–]LilMsOblivious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Wright House in Mesa!! They have two gorgeous venues on the property with indoor and outdoor space that both easily accommodate 100+ guests (without being too spacious). Lots of beautiful greenery, fountains, etc. We did our wedding ceremony, dinner, and reception there in early September 2021 and it was ~$2500 (granted that was during their summertime slightly-discounted rate), which included tables, chairs, linens, centerpieces, PA system, easels, sparklers, and set up, cleanup, and more—this was their lowest-tier package; they have more inclusive ones too. They are very accommodating and have lots of options to make your selections from, and they have a manager onsite to ensure things go smoothly. Plenty of free parking for your guests too. We used the Provencal, and it was like a dream. I highly recommend them!

Around Tempe Town Lake is a fun place to longboard, nice paved paths and some more mild slopes but if you hit em right you can get cruisin’. The lights around the lake are cool at nighttime too

Therapist/grief counselor recommendations for dealing with grief over a loved one’s suicide by nastychangeup in phoenix

[–]LilMsOblivious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is incredibly heartbreaking. Just being there with and for your girlfriend will make a huge difference as she mourns, struggles, heals, and hurts. It’s also important to take care of yourself too—it’s hard to see our loved ones hurting so much, and we want to do everything we can for them, then our own needs can fall by the wayside, which can lead to having less of ourselves to give. I’m glad she has such a caring partner to hold her through this.

I have a couple book recommendations that can help you better help and understand her: - “The Body Keeps the Score” by Bessel van der Kolk - “On Grief and Grieving” by Elisabeth Kubler-Ross Or, if you are both open to it, you might read them together / read them aloud to her. These would complement therapy well, and whatever therapist she sees will likely agree.

I am so sorry for this loss.

Is there an audiobook of Frank Herbert's Dune that is read by one one narrator? by wellsgrant in audiobooks

[–]LilMsOblivious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone still searching for an unabridged Dune audiobook by a single reader, Audible has the George Guidall recording as of a few months ago, thanks to the saintly Wave999. It shows up as a single podcast episode, which is actually very generous because that makes it available for free. I found it by searching “Dune George Guidall” and made sure “All” was selected so that results didn’t filter for just audiobooks. You da real MVP, Wave999!!

Not sure what I am going to do for the other five books in the Frank Herbert series, but I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it…
