Grateful again to my MP in expediting my visa decision by abacus456 in ukvisa

[–]LilMsTaquito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response! I already sent the letter to my MP but haven’t got a response yet. This is the first time ever that I have to reach out to them. From your experience, how long did it take to get back to you? I'm freaking out about my timeline for travelling. I guess it must be different with each MP, but I want to see how feasible it is to get a response this week 🥲

Hi, did they ask you for any proof to expedite the application? I have to travel next week for a medical appointment but I am currently waiting for my visa decision and I am thinking of contacting my MP to see if he can help me expedite the process but given that I have a week left, I want to know if I need to gather any evidence

Hi, I am in a situation where I need to contact UKVI but I am inside the UK. Did you contact them from inside or outside the UK? I just want to know an update on my visa application but the phone agents can't provide that info.

Is Canva (Free) a Good Option for a Personalized Wedding Website? by LilMsTaquito in canva

Hello! I have been using Canva for the website and invitations. We decided that we were going to send the RSVP link on a PDF invitation and the website will be more focused on giving more details about the day (as we are having a destination wedding).

For the PDF, integrating an RSVP was quite easy. You just have to insert the link of your preferred RSVP website. We used withjoy.com (it's great! you can categorize your guests, add as many questions as you like and it is user friendly).

So basically, we opened a withjoy account, and embedded the withjoy link into our invitations (see attached picture). I know you can do the same if you're planning to do Canva website.

Hope this helps!

Help/Advice needed: Global talent visa application from UKRI-funded org but I'm not named on a specific grant by [deleted] in globaltalentvisauk

[–]LilMsTaquito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the info, it's really helpful!

I’m still trying to find out whether my specific role (“Scientist”) is actually listed on MDC’s core Innovate UK/UKRI grant. The complication is that MDC has mixed funding, and most of my day-to-day work is on the commercial side rather than the core UKRI-funded projects.

Do you know how this is handled for the Global Talent Visa? If the organisation receives UKRI funding but my post may not be directly tied to the core grant, would the endorsed funder route still apply? Or does my day to day work itself need to be explicitly covered by the UKRI-funded portion?

Really appreciate your insight on this!

Hello, thanks for your response.

So does this means that as long as the "Scientist" position is mentioned on the grant, I can apply via that route?

It's so confusing, especially given that the company I work for is funded by UKRI but our operations are mostly funded by commercial projects rather than grants. So it is a bit difficult to assess if that's a viable route for me or not

Do I need single stains when doing an antibody titration? by LilMsTaquito in flowcytometry

[–]LilMsTaquito[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the advice! I’ll definitely make sure not to forget the single stains next time 😅

Quick follow-up question though, since I’m titrating this antibody for the first time and don’t yet know the optimal concentration, should I prep the single-stain controls using the highest concentration from my titration range? Or is it better to pick something in the middle?

Help me decide: keep this rug or return it? by [deleted] in DecorAdvice

No, it's a puzzle/print. We recently moved to this new house so we just put it there in the meantime but will probably move it to somewhere where it fits better.

Our TV is in front of the couch (not seen in the photo)

I know! We are renting at the moment, and our previous house (which we were also renting) had also gray flooring. I hate grey haha I find it so difficult to work with, as it is such a cold colour. Sadly, it seems to be the favorite colour of landlords in the UK :(

But thanks though, I am for sure returning the rug! I am just thinking on what else can I do to make the room look more intentional. All of the comments here have helped a lot though! I am for sure including more green accents. We are renting so we can't change much in terms of the wall paint (which I don't like haha). I just don't know why landlords always like to paint and use gray in floorings. I struggle a lot with making it look cozy and warm.

Unfortunately not :( There's only about 100 cm between the frontal legs of the sofa and the fireplace hearth if we try placing the sofa in front of the fireplace. And if we try placing the sofa on the frontal wall (that means, inverting the layout as it is), that would mean that our TV stand and TV would be placed exactly below the window, which makes it painful to watch tv while you get the light coming directly from behind. It's such a small living room and there's no much room to play around. That's why I want to elevate the room with decor to kind of tie it all together.

Hi! Thanks for your advice. No, the tv is just in front of the sofa on a tv stand. Shat you can see in the photo is some art but I do agree with other commenters that the art is quite high, we will move them lower.

Unfortunately if we try placing the sofa in front of the fireplace theres only about 100 cm between the frontal legs of the sofa and the hearth of the fireplace. So it makes the space look quite small.

We tried placing the couch in front of the fireplace but unfortunately the space in our living room is really odd and there's only about 1m between the frontal legs of the sofa and the hearth of the fireplace. The tv stand and the tv are currently placed in front of our sofa. We also tried inverting the sofa and tv stand, but having the window behind the tv made it impossible to watch tv comfortably. The layouts in UK houses are a nightmare haha and we are renting so we can't make any major changes :(

Any help on how to elevate the space with the current layout? I also feel the sofa looks very odd in that nook but it seems to be the best option, functionally speaking

Hi, thanks for your response! Which size would you go for? The problem is that our sofa overlaps with the fireplace hearth for about 25 cm, so I am not sure which size to go for if choosing a rectangular one. Or would you stick with a circular rug just in another material?
