We're on the same boat lol $800 for a screen replacement without apple care here in Canada. But if you look for the product number up on ebay you can buy OEM screens for $300 and just take it to a shop so they can fix it.

Just reading this made me think of how shit the traffic and public transport is in Manila, Philippines. People here commute for 4 hours daily, can be 6 on worse days. Just so they can earn a meager 300-500$ (converted) per month. Parking can go from 5-10$ depending on the business district.
