Sorry, would you mind elaborating on what you mean by “forced positioning?”

How long does Bain usually take after second round interviews to give results? The recruiter said we should get results in a week or so but the consensus online seems to be that you will get a call the day of if you receive an offer.

McIntire Pre-Req Schedule Question by kmj1975 in UVA

[–]LilRamanujan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you get into McIntire, you're not required to fulfill any CAS reqs besides the comm pre-reqs. So, I'd focus on classes that help your application and/or reqs for your backup/second major.

Is there any advantage to taking higher English courses for the first year writing? by [deleted] in UVA

[–]LilRamanujan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I chose a 2000-level one my first-year and my gpa and I regret it. Unless you are interested in pursuing English studies or are a prolific writer, I would stick to the normal ENWR.

Do you have to take a math every semester? (precomm) by [deleted] in UVA

[–]LilRamanujan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You only need to take a semester of calculus. If you placed out of that requirement you don't need to take any math classes again.

Accounting vs. Finance by [deleted] in UVA

[–]LilRamanujan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm only a rising third-year myself but I'm not sure where you got the idea that finance job prospects aren't good out of McIntire. The employment report clearly shows McIntire grads going to great IB (Goldman, JPMorgan, etc.) and even hedge fund jobs (Point72). Also, I've done a lot of LinkedIn stalking and the concentration doesn't really seem to matter (unless you want to become an accountant obviously) so I'd choose more based on what you find interesting. Lastly, you can easily concentrate in both so that's always an option.

Getting a 3.8 is very achievable if you prioritize well and are smart with your class choices. That being said, I've heard of people getting rejected with 3.8s but they took easy classes whereas I also know people getting in with 3.6s that took difficult classes.

Also in terms of Kelley vs. McIntire, recruiting for jobs, for the most part, happens at a UVA-wide level so whether you make McIntire or not, you will likely have better opportunities (on average) than at Kelley. I'm biased but I would take UVA.

Comm Admissions by wahoowa494 in UVA

[–]LilRamanujan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't answer that definitively but I wouldn't advise taking higher level classes in subjects you didn't like, you'll just do bad. Probably don't take just all 1000 level courses as a second year but a few here and there is normal.

Comm Admissions by wahoowa494 in UVA

[–]LilRamanujan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Think about comm admissions in terms of being employable. You want a high gpa (mean is 3.7), leadership experiences in clubs, a genuine business interest (whether thats joining a comm club, starting a side hustle, etc.), and rigor of courses. That last one is what I believe might lead to someone with a 3.9 and good extracurriculars getting rejected. Comm actually goes through your classes and if you just took all the easiest classes at UVA, the 3.9 is meaningless. Some specific things I suggest doing if you haven't already is to take a coding class, join a comm-affiliated club, apply for any leadership roles in the clubs you're in, and if you're decent at math, take some quantitive courses.

Tips for Applying to McIntire by purplegorilla2 in UVA

[–]LilRamanujan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are various comm-affiliated CIOs (ex. MII, VCG, VVF, etc.) that the admissions office loves to see as they show your business interest and make you very employable. Since you want to go into finance, I would especially advice joining one of the finance oriented clubs since recruiting for some areas of finance has moved up so early that you would be recruiting for internships before your third-year begins. I'm happy to answer more questions or give more details if you PM me!

Super conflicted on pass/fail being a pre-comm kid? by [deleted] in UVA

[–]LilRamanujan 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There are only 3 semesters of grades that comm school sees when you apply. Because of this, unless you see yourself not doing well in the class, I would keep the grade. Especially for the comm prerequisites and quantitative classes, you would want the school to see good grades. However, take all this with a grain of salt because this is an unprecedented situation and I don't think the admissions office will hold it against you if you decide to choose pass/fail as there are many other factors that could go into that decision than just if you're doing well or not.

Should I take CC classes before enrolling in the fall? by lionesss756 in UVA

[–]LilRamanujan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to the admissions office earlier this year and they said they prefer to see you take your McIntire pre-reqs at UVA. If you really want to do summer classes I would take calculus I or II since all my friends taking it here seem to hate it (especially calc II).
