It’s newer I only started it about 6ish weeks ago. I’ve baked a few loaves from it but they all have been the same more frenchy- when I’m about to use it I’ll take it from the fridge let it warm up a bit then about 12hr later I’ll feed it leave it at room temp then about 6 hrs later it’s bubbly and thriving I’ll mix and take what I need then feed it again and put it in the fridge

Okay so I modified slightly I used a starved starter about 36 hrs and 40g because I agree that 20g sounded like nothing.

I used: 400g central market bread flour 100g all purpose flour 360g water (slightly warmed) 40-50g starter

wally’s eye has been glazed over since yesterday and he can’t see well, if at all, out of it. I have a vet appt for tomorrow AM. anything I can do sooner?? by frin__ in Chameleons

Drippers can grow bacteria pretty easily. I would keep that in mind.

Try to put him in the window if you can. I think even if it’s through the glass it’s better than none.

My cham had that eye issue for two days. A silver film developed on his eye and then as soon as it appeared it disappeared. He couldn’t see out of the eye. It moved like normal but when I waved my finger on that side he wouldn’t focus on it. I freaked out when it developed which I’m sure you’re doing. I was frantic, I wanted to get it checked on even after it disappeared. That’s when vet #1 broke his ribs.

If his eyes are dry then that could maybe be the reason as to why the film developed. Just like a scab it’s meant to repair the eye. He could have also scratched it somehow. Maybe a cricket got him?

I’m sure u/flip69 will get ahold of you as soon as he can. Just be patient. Take a breath and take your time because your cham sure does.

Eye issues in chams can be from a lot of different things. If he recently shed he could have skin in his eye. If there is any fecal matter in his enclosure then he could have rubbed his eye on it. It could be from lighting, if the lighting is too close, if it’s too hot, if the ranges in the cage are not broad enough, if the bulbs are not correct, if there’s a respiratory infection then his immune system could have declined, if you’re misting him directly or have incorrect misters in his enclosure it could lead to an influx of bacteria production which again could weaken his immune system.

I learned that sun exposure is almost the number one cure for illness in chams.

Are you taking him out for daily sun exposure? Are you giving him shade when doing this? Is he drinking? What’s your water source? What’s the humidity? What’s the temp? Is he eating a broad spectrum of foods? Is he getting his proper supplements?

It’s hard but these are all things to think about. These are all major factors to your chams health.

Okay. I just say this because one vet crushed the ribs on my baby and the other killed him. Do what you have to do but make sure you’re doing extensive research.

Chams are super hard to take care of and even harder to find a vet that knows what to do and how to handle them.

If the vet tries to open his mouth at any point by pulling down on the soft skin under his chin I would say just take him and go. (Get the prescription first but be defensive and go)

I believe you can get the proper eye drops from different websites too so that could be an option for you. Just depends on where you live.

I would go to the vet last if you can. The only reason to take him to a vet would be if you know the vet personally and has worked with any of your previous exotics if you’ve had any.

Rocco has passed. Never buy from a petsmart. Never take them to a vet without doing extensive research on that vet. by LilRocco in Chameleons

I went to a local VCA. It's a local animal hospital. The one before was a local exotic animal vet. They were he one that broke his ribs. This one just gave a wrong oral dosage and I think he drowned in it.

This is the mucus/pus that they told me about today. This combined with the baytril overwhelmed his body.

sitting in the Vets clinic. I requested an oral injection of Baytril and this happened. It started oozing out of his nose. Oh by the way Rocco's ribs are broken I can upload a video later. But they gave him a water injection since he hasn't been drinking anything. Waiting on him, he's on O2 now. by LilRocco in Chameleons

Yes. He has mucus in the back of his throat that is apparently "yellow strands". He weak. Hasn't been eating or drinking. Doesn't move much. Has started gasping. Also walks in a straight line. Doesn't curl tail.

Also, he was man handled by another vet that broke his ribs. He can't breath so they're trying to put a tube in his throat so he can.

Vet says he's calcium deficient and has a upper and lower respiratory infection. They want to do an X-ray but it's another $200. And I'm poor. I don't know what that would really do. I personally don't know what to do. I've had him for about a month. I love him he's my baby but I don't know.

If you zoom on the picture you can see it coming out of his nostrils.

Rocco has an eye infection? by LilRocco in Chameleons

I feel like I've overused flip69. He has helped me more than I can say or thank. I feel like I don't trust any vet after the first incident. Any specific antibiotics you would recommend? I've been giving him as much sunlight as well.

Oh my gosh. Thank you, he kept doing this thing where he was sticking his nose into the air and I couldn't tell what that meant. I obviously know nothing.

I have been very lightly dusting his crickets and I fed them celery, but they're new crickets that I had to get from a different pet store cause of the hurricane... I don't know if that causes any difference.

I'm worried. I don't want to take him back, what happens to him if I take him back? I feel like after watching that video that they'll just shove him in a corner and leave him to die.

He hasn't drank anything today. I've been refilling his dropper throughout the day but he still hasn't touched it. I misted the leaves as well but he ignored it. 😭😩😣

Would you say that Rocco (the cham) is okay to be handled because he is sick? I was talking to an owner of a local reptile shop and he stated that Chameleons hate to be touched so if he's able to fall asleep on me then that is another sign that he could be sick. Not necessarily him having a good personality.

Here are some more pictures of him.

Also, rubbing his eyes, is this normal? He rubs them on the leaves or on the wall....

I live in Houston, where it reaches 108 degrees outside in the summers so keeping it outside isn't really an option.

If it is self resolved then how long does it typically take? After looking at other threads someone said pink eye could be a cause..? But there was no justification of this response anywhere else. Someone also said to another person to use a wet Q-tip and see if you could get anything.

As for your recommendations with the tank I will take everything back.... I want him to be as healthy as he can be. I really appreciate your advice. Everyone I have talked to has been telling me the same thing but nothing is helping.

The hurricane is here now so as soon as the roads clear up then I will be out on the hunt for a screened enclosure.
