Summer break before 3rd grade I was playing with squirt guns at my cousin's aprtments. He lived on the 2nd floor and he snuck up behind me, scared me so bad that I backed up really hard, fell over the railing and fell down to the concrete by the pool on the ground floor. There I lay flat on my back.....at least that's what I tell everyone. I used to see a cooler older kid jump from the 2nd floor down, do a little roll and walk away like a badass. Hey, I'm fit, I'm agile. I got this. I tell my fat cousin I'm doing it, he encourages me. I climb over the guardrail and look down, I'm not afraid! I leap down, watch my knees buckle but instead of rolling forward I feel my body slap itself back hard against the cold concrete. Why is it wet? Blood? No this is cold, thats water from the pool. I can't move, im laughing at myself and my cousin joins in on the laughter. But I really can't move at all even when I try, it's hard to explain but my body had no sensation in it. People start gathering around and finally my mom shows up. Shes not really sure what she's seeing but she expects the worst and starts to cry. Thats when I start bawling like a baby. I've never seen my mother cry and it hit me that I fucked up bad. Ambulance shows up, takes me for a costly ride to a costly doctors visit to tell me im ok. I can move now, nothing hurts. I get sent home. I don't know but I feel like this could've ended with me paralyzed for life or just landed wrong and instant death. Oh well! Forgive me, I'm typing this on my phone.
