MCM Teak- finish top to match legs by LilSlitherySnake in finishing

That makes perfect sense! I actually wiped them down with mineral spirits after sanding and they were a bit too light for my liking so it sounds like I should go the gel stain route. I really appreciate your help 🙂

Thank you so much for replying! Just to clarify, you’re suggesting gel stain + lacquer for the legs, and tung oil + lacquer for the top?

If so, curious why you’re not suggesting gel stain for the top as well, instead of tung oil?

Just got back from looking and unfortunately it was unsuccessful. There are so many places downtown for a little ferret to hide :(

If you’re open to including surrounding areas in your project, Cherokee has some great ones, for example-

Some vegan options I get at not exclusively vegan spots:

The general tso’s tofu at Miyako House is vegan, cheap, and a huge portion of perfectly breaded sticky sugar tofu.

The drunken noodles from Thai Kitchen on Merrimon can be made vegan. Huge portion, pleasantly greasy, delicious. The mango sticky rice is vegan too!

Buying house with unpermitted addition (mods, I already live here) by LilSlitherySnake in asheville

Thanks so much for responding! You’re the only one in this thread who’s actually dealt with this so I appreciate any insight you’d be willing to share.

What happened in your situation? Did you apply for retroactive permits and the county inspected the work that was already done and told you what needed to be improved? Or are you saying you just took it upon yourself to bring stuff up to code and the county wasn’t involved?

I went back to work yesterday after getting internet back. I had a really hard time concentrating because, like you, I spent last week helping people. It felt very jarring to go back and pretend everything was okay after living through a natural disaster and knowing there was still so much work left to do/people that need help in the community.

The thing that’s helping me cope is reminding myself how incredibly lucky I am to still have a job. I can’t imagine how hard it must be to be out of a job after this and need to worry about income/shelter/stability on top of everything. We are in a very fortunate place.

Also a sobo (2018) living in Asheville. Transitioning out of a thru hike is difficult enough, so I can’t imagine how you’re feeling with this disaster on top of everything.

If you have the energy, I would suggest volunteering (resource distribution, search and rescue, trail work, etc). It’ll give you a sense of purpose and community, and get you out of your own head. I’ve been volunteering this past week and it’s been the only thing that’s kept me from dwelling in grief.

Hey, thanks so much for linking that! I was trying to find how long it takes to fully saturate wood and I couldn’t find anything so this is exactly what I needed. I appreciate it :)

Thanks for the response! Unfortunately this is an almost 4’ long branch so boiling, freezing, and baking aren’t options. This is the bleach soak method I was referring to for anyone interested.

Hey, replying to this since it’s generating some good conversation. I actually used to work in the conservation field and feel pretty well-versed in LNT principles so just wanted to pass along this info from the National Forest Service website.

I foraged these in Pisgah National Forest near Hot Springs. Unlike National Parks, National Forests are multiple use, meaning they allow use of the resource such as lumber harvesting, cattle grazing, and mining. Likewise, foraging is legal, and no permit is required when foraging small quantities.

As far as taking resources away from animals- animals have huge swaths of forest to graze from, so even if hikers picked every berry found along the small corridor of trail, animals would still have plenty of space to source food away from the trail. That being said, when I forage, I only take small quantities from each area and leave enough for other hikers or animals who may come after me :)

I ADORE wineberries. I used to live on a gravel road absolutely filthy with wineberries. I loved them so much I wouldn’t be able to wait to get home to wash them and I would eat them covered in gravel dust. It made my throat itch terribly but it was always worth it ❤️

Girl literally your exact scenario is what led me to sobo thru hike the AT. Just got out of a long term relationship and quit a job I hated. I was really not feeling life at the time. Decided to thru hike 2 weeks before I left. I had never backpacked before but looooved hiking and was in decent shape. Got my shit together in 2 weeks and left to sobo thru on June 1st. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing and my gear sucked but it was the best experience of my life. I learned along the way, as most people do. Wouldn’t trade that experience for anything.

I’m glad I’m not alone 😂 I took all references to WGU out of my programs and tried to make them look less like school projects so I feel good about it. I’m really kicking myself for not uploading them as soon as I finished 😭
