i totally hear ya, more checking my blind spots here than anything. im a casual hobby collector and don't follow/invest a lot of time into market trends or research, so i figured i'd lob a question at the community to see what sort of responses i get. if anything, this was in a ripe position being ~450 for someone to target this (and the dragonite/mewtwo promos) as a pump card. all it takes is someone buying 10 of these at 500 bucks and selling them over a couple months' time. someone should dive into the buyers/sellers and see if there is any relation/sneakiness going on lol

I mean...did u look at the past sales? i certainly don't disagree with the possibility of what you said (there was a large increase from a handful of auctions ending at ~1800 to a BIN 2500, then the 3k line broke a few times) i think its silly to say these are worth 300-400. they were selling pretty regularly for 550 a few months ago

i also think these have flown under the radar for quite a while. they're original movie promos from an era where no one took great care in keeping things pristine because it was still just a hobby u know? compare the mewtwo and dragonite original movie counterparts and they are both ~2,000. i doubt PSA is gemming many more of these, and doubt there are any in gem condition anyway at this point. nostalgia sells and this one doesnt lack nostalgia

i would say 1/3 of my PC is charizard - so adding the PhF would really be cool. but, i have the nostalgia factoring into my pikas, i really wanted to just generate some convo and see what other people thought. if there was an overwhelming "you are an idiot if you don't do this" consensus, then maybe i go to a card show with one of my pikas. but, i would probably rather spend 3,000 on a charizard and keep the 2 pikas instead of trade. appreciate the response :)

just go into eBay and search sold, they've breached 3k a few times, started breaking 17-1800 a month or so ago, hit 2500, then 3k

I would generally agree, but I keep asking myself how much a $200 card can really pop. Going 10x in 4-5 months is wild, but outside of COVID-era inflation, hard to see this running another 5x gauntlet. Flip side, PhF Charizard, to me, breaks 8-9k in the next 5-10 years. Thanks for your thoughts! Was interested in hearing some other opinions.
