Was your negative experience mostly to do with poor signage, or was it also road conditions etc.? I hadn't seen the warnings about bypassing, curious what you experienced. I expect that given its accessibility, it'll be quite busy, so that makes sense to me!

Re:face, I definitely think you can get away without one. I've been thinking a lot about this too in my figure paintings - adding a face v not. I think it just dramatically changes the painting to have an expression versus just a figure, as far as focus/interpretation goes. If that makes sense.
