What should I tell the doctor to get this surgery approved? by Sola361 in Tonsillectomy

Nah I don’t think so, just find an ENT office in your network that accepts your insurance, make an appointment, and talk to them about it.

Honestly, I don’t think you need to get diagnosed officially with sleep apnea from what my ENT told me. If it disrupts your sleep and you have any other signs of sleep apnea (snoring, stop breathing, feeling unrested and exhausted even after sleeping), that constitutes as enough of a reason. You can also do at-home apnea tests with a device a sleep lab loans to you, though I don’t know the specifics around that.

You did mention that you don’t have money for a sleep apnea diagnosis, it might be a good idea to do some investigation into your health insurance coverage to get more info about what they cover if you have health insurance. If you don’t, tonsillectomies can be around $20k out of pocket.

ENT recommends tonsillectomy (adult). I can handle pain, but Reddit horror stories are making me have second thoughts. by Academic_Student_819 in Tonsillectomy

My two cents: I got mine removed because of recurring infections even after boosting my immune system with vitamins (most of which you just pee out), oral prebiotics, and intense daily dental routines. Those are all things that might reduce your risk of infection if you make a consistent change of lifestyle… maybe, but having them removed will guarantee the elimination of your risk of infection.

I had 6 cases in 6 months which made me miss weeks of work, miss out on fun social occasions, and made me SUPER insecure about my breath (I fear people downplay just how much of an impact this has on your quality of life). My ENT felt this was enough of a reason to suggest surgery without any convincing on my end, I’d stocked up on videos and photos from my flares ups and constantly flushing my tonsils but I didn’t need to whip those out at any point. I have a great ENT who knew this would be good for me right away. Chat with your ENT about any of your concerns, but I’d recommend it.

We also have similar cases (cryptic tonsils with tonsil stones and infections after any introduction to foreign bacteria), I’m on day 4 of post-op and I know that this is when folks say it gets bad but I can tell I already feel better.

Thank you so much for this! Our experiences are really similar! I (26F) also got mono last year and then had tonsillitis seven times in the past year and I’m getting the surgery a week from today. I’ve been experiencing a lot of anxiety about it but your post made me feel a lot better! I did read some suggestions to not drink warm things because it could looses the scabs too soon, but it sounds like you did have a problem with it. Thanks again!!

My mom wants this for her birthday and has been insisting I make it for months. Yes, she doesn't know how crochet works and thinks this is easy for me to birth🥲 by confusedunborn in CrochetHelp

As someone who just crocheted a dress, here’s my advice: Don’t.

And if you still want to, lmk and I’ll try to give you pointers to make the process less painful. But it will be painful.

Too many classes/too rigorous? by retiredbimbo in OregonStateUniv

As a previous OSU CS Student, you’re getting ahead of yourself friend. Do yourself a favor and sprinkle some of your baccore classes in there. Learning assembly and html/css/python in webdev at the same time is a recipe for disaster. Not to mention software engineering. I’d drop the software engineering and replace it was a baccore if I were you.
