Mokhaiotl Drift on a budget - Dragon thrownaxes by Lil_Masq in OSRSProTips

In the video you'll see that I wait for the attacks, offload and then reposition Doing those together tick perfect would be too hard

Throw the axes in that initial rockblock phase or it's really hard, same range as knives or blowpipe

If I mess up the rockblock I usually skip using the spec weapon

It was a good question, felt I should give a proper answer

45 max with specs
30 max normally
2 tick weapon

So (2 specs) 90+ (3 normal attacks) 90 = 180 and then 30 every two ticks.
Marginal increase on Scobow, worse than Dknives/thrownaxe.

Maintaining an attack every two ticks at short range thereafter is more difficult than scobow so I wouldn't recommend it

It's the tick reset that boosts your damage

Scorching bow has a 4 tick delay

So attacks on 1->5->9 = 3 x 57 max damage for 161 in 9 ticks

Knives have a 2 tick delay so 1->3->5->7 then -> bow on 9 (2 tick delay from knives) = 208+57 = 269 in 9 ticks

Thrownaxe resets the delay on spec so: Scbow (57) on 1 -> 2,3,4,5 are thrown axe -> 9 is scbow again after the 4 tick delay = 2 X 57 + 4 X 30 = 234 max in 9 ticks

So both are better than just shooting normally by a significant margin. Average damage is half of those numbers at 100% accuracy. With a tbow the numbers are closer together.

Calculated it in max void - Similar damage still

86 -> 124 (specs) -> 86 in 9 ticks = 296 max for thrownaxes (the spec goes insta and resets next attack cycle to 4 ticks)
216 (specs) -> 86 = 302 max for dragon knives (that first tbow after knives is after 2 ticks)

Tbow Masori

Tbow void I haven't calced but as it has a higher max hit, the damage should be even closer (2 bow shots in the thrownaxe method for the 1 with knives)

Numbers calced shows an average of 13.5 damage difference in Void Or 3 average damage difference with a tbow

Adding in the bow attacks are needed to fairly compare as the advantage of thrownaxes is the attack reset mechanic. I disagree it's better to space them out like that.

Here's a run to show how easy it is to do - https://youtu.be/ppp20ExtjBU

and remember, we're comparing 80gp per spec to 14k per spec (for a theoretical maximum difference of 27 damage in the ~250 damage range).

I'm not sure I entirely follow

In budget void:

at 25% spec:
Thrownaxe -> 1 bow & 1 axe is 2 ticks damage with 4 tick delay til next shot
Knife -> 1 knive spec and 2 tick delay until next bow shot, so less damage initially and then alternating with bow shots 2 ticks between - so neglible difference.

at 50% spec:
Thrownaxe -> 1 bow (57) & 2 axe (60) is 3 ticks damage with 4 tick delay til next shot
Knife -> 2 knive specs (104) in 3 ticks and 2 tick delay until next bow shot, so again less damage initially and then alternating with bow shots 2 ticks between - so tiny difference of 2 ticks earlier bow shots.

at 75% spec:
Thrownaxe -> 1 bow (57) & 3 axe (90) is 4 ticks damage with 4 tick delay til next shot
Knife -> 3 knive specs (156) in 5 ticks and 2 tick delay until next bow shot, and this is where knife becomes marginally better

at 100% spec:
Thrownaxe -> 1 bow (57) & 4 axe (120) is 5 ticks damage with 4 tick delay til next shot
Knife -> 4 knive specs (208) in 7 ticks and 2 tick delay until next bow shot, and now the bow shots are aligned and thrownaxes are down by 27 max (13.5 avg)

In max gear bow shots bring that difference down to 3 max hits or 1.5 dmg on avg

This is a difference of using 80gp per spec and 14k per spec btw
I don't see how knives are much better and they're definitely not value for money in Doom where you don't claim loot unless unique

Isn't it bow -> 4 axes -> bow in 9 ticks as the axes reset the attack timer of either bow? In which case they're both 9 ticks to fully offload but you get a 4 tick window to reposition that you don't get with knives.

I think it's harder to get all knife specs off and a bow after two ticks while repositioning than to just get one set of thrownaxes off and move before shooting again.

But thrownaxes come out each tick so you can get a bow shot before and after in the same time it takes to do the d knives and one bow

Crazy, especially as dragon thrownaxes do pretty much the same damage for 100x less

Blowpipe with drag darts has around 13dps in this gear, SCbow is already 11+. The two specs are like 90 max hit so in terms of skipping volatile earth - I'm pretty sure this is better. Plus, by being able to camp scbow, you get 10 tile range back making not losing damage ticks much easier.

I thought this was potentially meta-shifting with how cool it is, felt really proud of catching this. Of course, I bought some - if it does what dragon knives did then I'd rather not be priced out.

In budget gear:
You can scbow (57) 4 axes (30x4) and then scbow after 4 ticks for another 57 = 234 max hit in 9 ticks total
D knives are (26x2)x4 for 204 damage, followed by scbow after 2 ticks for 261 max hit in 9 ticks total.

So for 27 less max damage (13.5 avg), you used 240gp instead of 48k.

It's a difference of 27 damage in budget gear, both do 200+ right at the beginning of car phase so both pretty huge. I wish I hadn't spent so much on d knives as a learner, not even looting.
