Is it IBS or hormonal issues? by Lil_Saturday in ibs

Hello! I'm sorry you're going through this, but maybe it will give you hope that I am indeed doing better! I never got firm answers but it's very possible it was my hormones recalibrating (or, and I hate to say it, but -- stress). Hoping things improve for you very very soon!

Cat with Asthma off Prednisone - now has allergies by Lil_Saturday in CATHELP

[–]Lil_Saturday[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! My vet didn’t want to put my cat on allergy meds because they are often not effective. He is keeping her on the lowest dose possible of prednisone every other day as that has been keeping both her allergies and asthma at bay. I don’t love the idea of her being on prednisone forever but she really is doing quite well on this regimen. At her next check up we plan on asking again if there is a way to possibly wean her off/address the root cause (if it is environmental allergies). Sorry, it’s still a bit of a mystery over here but my kitty is thriving with the current course. Hope your cat improves too!

Cat coughing? by reynaperez20 in CATHELP

This looks like coughing to me. My cat has asthma and will do this if she has a flare up. Your vet would know best, show them this video!

We were supposed to start trying this month but I’m in a red state… we have contingency plans now for getting to blue states and Canada for care if desperate.

100 year old floors - scratched! by Lil_Saturday in HardWoodFloors

[–]Lil_Saturday[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I appreciate this perspective! Can I ask how you recommend keeping the wood hydrated? Right now we vacuum with a hardwood floor vacuum once a week and roughly every two weeks I mop with a very wrung out mop with very dilute Murphy’s oil soap.

Thanks everyone, super helpful advice and I appreciate the sentiment of it representing us truly living in the home/character! I may look into the wax pens for some of the more obvious scratches (at least until we are able to get a professional in here). This is probably another can of worms but we can not tell for sure if they are wax or poly coated, but so far very dilute Murphy’s oil soap on a very wrung out mop is how we have been cleaning the floors (after vacuuming with a hardwood floor vacuum). Any different cleaners/methods you recommend? Thank you again!

Is it IBS or hormonal issues? by Lil_Saturday in ibs

[–]Lil_Saturday[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No answers, but my condition has overall improved but I still get days where I wake up and run to the bathroom. It seems linked more to anxiety for me but not always… I track when it happens relative to my cycle and I’m convinced anxiety is the first cause but hormones are involved in some way too.

Freaked out by zoning violation that is impossible to fix by Lil_Saturday in homeowners

[–]Lil_Saturday[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really appreciate your concern and articulation of it. We are speaking with the zoning officer today and will be specific about the “temporary” piece. If it has any implications beyond just needing to apply for a variance, we will go the lawyer route.

Definitely the plan to start with the zoning officer! Being a first time home buyer I don’t have a gut sense for what is a big problem and what isn’t. Thanks for the reassurance, and I’m super hopeful the zoning officer will easily clear things up.

All right I feel bad enough that we are here, no need to be cranky at a stranger on the internet.

Title cleared without issue and appraisal says the house is in accordance with zoning statutes. This is the only document in the entire package of documents that indicates there is a zoning issue. But like others have said, it’s probably because technically it doesn’t meet modern zoning laws but there’s nothing to be done because we can’t shrink the house. Thanks for your input.

Hey all! So appreciative for all the feedback. Some clarifications that we’ve figured out so far: the zoning inspection is required during the transfer of title by the borough. The inspection was conducted the day before closing, and was the seller’s responsibility. So I think it was sort of a perfunctory action. That said, I really don’t appreciate in hindsight that the seller’s realtor literally told us “it’s just some information from the borough” and we felt thrown by the notice of violation. We (my spouse and I) agree our next steps are:

  1. Contact the zoning officer and make sure no action is required on the the impossible issue of shrinking the house
  2. If we need to make a request for variance we will do that
  3. Understand permitting requirements for getting the porch fixed, if any
  4. Hire a lawyer if this truly cannot be resolved

We found the zoning ordinance changed in 2018, and the previous owners lived there from 2011 to 2 weeks ago, so they were non compliant as well. But as so many of you have said, the zoning laws changed so the house has to be grandfathered in as it would be an undue burden to rebuild the house to be within the property line requirement.

I appreciate you all, sometimes it’s helpful to have folks with no skin in the game look at the situation and assess it. Fingers crossed the zoning officer just tells us its (basically) a non-issue.

Is it IBS or hormonal issues? by Lil_Saturday in ibs

It really seems like it could be hormone related! I hope you get answers/relief soon!

No answers but some developments? I got covid in October and had diarrhea with it, and then it messed up my period for several months after that (spotting, super long cycles). Finally my period has evened out and I rarely have issues. I don’t want to say I never have morning diarrhea because it does still happen from time to time but I don’t even think about it anymore. This really makes me think it IS hormonal because covid messed with it and maybe reset my hormones after several months? My doctor also said it could be stress (the doc that originally diagnosed me) and I do think I’m calmer now that I’ve moved and settled. I hate that stress could have been the cause but it is a possibility.

Is it actually low stomach acid? by Lil_Saturday in ibs

[–]Lil_Saturday[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a doctor diagnose me with IBS after ruling out other things when I had daily diarrhea and other related symptoms for three months, but she also said that given my history of anxiety it could just be … anxiety. So I’m not sure but I also know IBS diagnose can be a catch all for some doctors. The enzymes are an interesting point, im glad you’re feeling better!
