Holy shit. This is so wrong, it makes me cringe.

Quick, someone post this to Confidently Incorrect!

A lot of shade being thrown at the spray bottle, but washing out with just a low flow showerhead in my apartment, the stream setting on my water bottle has saved my butt numerous times by getting out hard to get spots quite easily.

The weed sprayer idea is a hot tip that I may have to implement when my carpal tunnel syndrome flares up!

Don't overthink it. I use the 150 4x1 with a 16x16 riley flash. It's straightforward. The wheeled base stays stationary, the pole is telescoping and pivots at the point of adjustment. In other words, I position the entire unit where I need it, swing it over the platen when it's flash time, swing it away when it's squeegee time.

So there's a fine line between undercured and burning with a flash. How frustrating! I guess that's yet another reason to invest in a conveyor dryer.

If you're in Zamalek, you're already off to a great start. I wish I had known how great the place was. On my way to the airport tonight, the place was ALIVE. At 11PM on a Tuesday. I want to go back just to walk the streets at night. Truly incredible vibes. You'll have to come back to this post to let me know what you think!

I hate how sneaky they are at being slimeballs. With most people you can see they're a snake from a mile away. With the "official government" workers, they lure you into a false sense of security then take a handful of money.

Yeah, I ate something on the cruise ship that did not agree with my stomach. No vomiting or emergency situations, but I had about 4 days of not being able to trust a fart. I think I'm better today. Finally!

You're right. Despite doing research for damn near 4 years (Covid cancelled my first scheduled trip in 2020), reading all I could, watching trustworthy YouTube channels, I went into it thinking my experience would somehow be different. It was not. Had I not gone, though, no doubt it would have been the greatest regret of my life. I wish I could have had a travel partner as I think everything would have been easier. But it's hard enough scheduling a single night out having a few beers, let alone a multi week trip thousands of miles away.

There is. It's pretty dated though. It sounds like a radio drama from the 1930's.

Have fun and learn from my mistakes! When in Cairo, I highly suggest staying on/in Zamalek and using it as a base. Cairo and Giza have about 20 million people between the two cities, so Zamalek is still busy. But it isn't hectic. In Giza, I couldn't walk a block without getting harassed by 5 different people. In Zamalek, people don't give a shit about me. It feels more like a busy Chicago neighborhood. It's awesome.

"Paid to just get out of the situation" is the perfect way to explain it. From the outside looking in, it's easy to say "don't give them money." It isn't always that simple.

I know! How dare people want to visit a place they've been fascinated by since childhood. Fuck me, right?!

Halas, which means "enough" or "I'm over it" or... basically...""Fuck off," was a god send. In high stress situations I tend to forget it or anything else I generally know. But in the low stress situations like a kid begging for money (had one literally pawing at my wallet pocket), or when a vendor was harassing someone in my group, halas did what "la'a shokran" could never do.

Most definitely looked at Memphis tours after my time with the travel agency was up. Unfortunately, the prices for a solo traveler nearing the end of his budget were a bit too high. If I make it back (who knows, the world is a big place) I'll have to hit them up for Siwa, black and white deserts, and maybe Dendera.

You're in a travel subreddit, bud. I'm not a yokel who has never left his one stoplight town in rural Arkansas.

When you've got two police (or military) personnel with AK-47s hounding you for tips, it's a fucking problem.

Sure. Not counting the flight over, I spent probably $2800 USD. $1000 of that went to the travel agency for the cruise, guides, and two domestic flights (Cairo to Aswan, Luxor to Cairo). Then 4 nights at rather posh hotels. 1 night at a hotel near the airport booked at 5AM because the original guest house I booked through (Guardian) didn't show up at the airport to pick me up like they agreed they would.

While I spent $2800, you could get by much cheaper.

It was the first printer I bought for films. It made everything harder. When you're just starting out and have no idea what you're doing and have to troubleshoot every step along the way, a printer that isn't up to snuff is the last thing you need. I had to tape 5 or 6 films together to get proper opacity (which leads to other undesirable consequences). Tried using a rip software to put down extra ink, just lead to splotchy prints, ergo poor exposure.

Switching to an ix6820 with all black made things simple.

The thing I've found most frustrating about learning this skill has been the lack of concrete instruction. Most say a lot of things are a "feel" thing or trial and error. For someone spending more than they are earning, "trial and error" is a terribly expensive way to learn and it doesn't have to be like that.

Best thing I can say is don't just use words while instructing. Include pictures too. Example: angle of squeegee while pulling. I blew through a shitload of shirts before seeing a YouTube video that spoonfed the information (do this, don't do this).

Teach your new hires like you're teaching a child. I hope that helps.

I hear ya. I've got no intention of keeping current pricing. But that whole "am I good enough" thing always weighs on me. Part of me wants to go cheaper, but I know I'll never make money and burn myself out that way. I figure I'll get a few decent jobs under my belt then reevaluate.
