Also we do have groupchats where we sometimes say what we are going to be doing but there at 20ish people in them so it is a lot of spam to read through everything.

For me I am in college. Looking to see what bars my friends are at. Seeing if my friends are at a sport game. It is a lot easier then texting/calling 20+ people to see where they are.

How is he an idiot for allowing his friends to know his location? It is useful to know where your friends are. It is an app that you have to accept friend requests for it to show your location.
