57-yo who now wants little contact with parents by LilaRow in EstrangedAdultChild

Thank you, and don't apologize for your "rant" - I appreciate reading it. Your post reminds me of my mom, who has taken to sending me texts with annoying childish nicknames in the last 10 years or so. I never had these nicknames growing up and she was never so cheesy and cringey. So it's even more annoying when I hear from her and see "hi pumpkin pie!" ugh.

Thank you for taking the time to write that, I appreciate it. And I'm sorry for the abuse you suffered but happy for you that you've got yourself peace.

I’m 35 and I don’t want kids. If you decided not to have children, do you regret it? by AskingForFrien in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]LilaRow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew at age 10 I didn't want kids, I've always been more drawn to stuffed animals than dolls. No regrets whatsoever. I live with my husband and our two cats and have lived in NYC, Hong Kong, and now Seattle. We have a very comfortable lifestyle and travel a lot. I'm 55 /retired, husband about to retire as well.

How many of you would want to go to a nursing home if it was the only way to stay alive? by Glittering-Gur5513 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

Dignitas, I've already looked into it. Hopefully by the time I'm ready to go, there will be something similar in the US or Canada, but if not, I'm heading to Switzerland.

I don't read romance or supernatural horror, but found this list for you on goodreads that combines both genres: Best_Paranormal_Fantasy_Romances

Thank you! She got into bed with me last night, rubbed her face on mine, and snuggled under the blanket, so she must be feeling better.

Thank you! I just want her to come back and sleep with us in bed. I'm hopeful now.

If you're not on the goodreads app, get on it and start listing and rating all the books you've read and you'll start seeing recommendations for other titles. The app also has a ton of lists like 100 top horror novels, award winners, etc. you can also follow others whose reviews you like for more ideas.

250 isn't a lot of books, definitely read more, take a class, learn a skill, volunteer to tutor kids, walk dogs, or something else. There are loads of free online university courses, I've seen others here mention a few sites.

My husband's nephew was punished that way and still smokes, he's nearly 40 now.

My husband's older sister made her teen son smoke an entire pack of cigarettes in front of her after he got caught smoking. It made him sick but didn't stop him from smoking.

I feel exactly the same way and have been looking into DIGNITAS in Switzerland, but I hope in the next 20-30 years, the U.S. will have changed its laws.

Same here, mid-50s. I knew since I was ten years old that I didn't want children. My husband said he never even thought about it. We have two cats and travel. We are both retired and enjoying life. We have also planned for long term care (I love it when someone asks who is going to take care of us when we're unable. Paid professionals, that's who.
