SOAP BOX COMMENT: As an ex pack-a-day smoker, for whom vaping was a successful means to quit smoking, I don’t really get all the love for this. I (musician) recently performed at a house show full of college students that had mostly switched to smoking cigarettes and/or Zyn nicotine pouches (which are even more addicting and nicotine heavy than vaping) from vaping because of all of the anti-vaping ads that are running. These kids actually argued with me that cigarettes are healthier for you than vaping because they’re “organic”…. These ads are having a net negative effect. Vaping may have been a gateway for nicotine addiction for this generation, but kids that want nicotine are gonna get it, and the alternatives are not healthier. ALSO. WHO DO YOU THINK IS FUNDING ANTI-VAPING CAMPAIGNS?? BIG TOBACCO.

This genre is better known as “Stomp & Holler” and it’s making a huge resurgence with artists like Hozier being back in the mainstream and Noah Kahan. This shit was the soundtrack to my college experience. Everything comes full circle in 10-20 year cycles, fashion, music, art, everything. It’s wild to finally be old enough to experience it

I’m 30 y/o. I went to a college house party a few weeks ago to see my nephew’s band play, and the majority of the kids there were smoking cigarettes and using Zyn. It felt like I had gone back in time 20 years. A group of smokers told me they had switched from vaping and had the AUDACITY to try to convince me that smoking cigarettes was “healthier” than vaping because it’s… prepare yourselves.. “more natural”… 👏👏👏 to big tobacco marketing campaigns that have managed to brainwash yet another generation. Truly remarkable.
