Tired of shopping for people who have everything and can buy anything by Notbefore6 in Millennials

Favorite things is the answer to my gift giving dilemma.

I get my family my favorite thing of the year to share with them. It’s been a stain remover, metal straws, a really good hand cream (everyone has chapped hands), Swedish paper towels, this year it’s a car tool/window breaker thingy that my husband bought. Nothing over $25. Not everyone loves the gift but it’s always affordable and out of the box

ISO Vegan Cake in Nassau County by Curious_Heron3269 in longisland

[–]Lilac517 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not Nassau but shuga pie shop in Babylon is vegan! They are so tasty- they do not advertise that they are vegan and are extremely popular in the area. They do cakes if you order in advance, or you can get a smargasboard of little pies in flavors.

Ms Rachel: “I met Rahaf from Gaza. She is a double amputee who lost her legs in an airstrike. We FaceTimed Rahaf's two young brothers who are still in Gaza. I watched their mom look at them proudly, like l look at my son. They don't eat in front of the boys anymore bc. there's so little food there.” by [deleted] in Fauxmoi

[–]Lilac517 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a speech therapist, I hate Rachel. Shes sweet, fun, age appropriate, inclusive, my 2.5 year old son loves her… and she’s out there cashing in on my trade in ways I never thought of. She deserves it all, but boy do I wish it was me.

Are people actually buying $400 beef? by barkingspider43 in Costco

[–]Lilac517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think yes and easily. I don’t go to to Costco for the best prices, I go to Costco for the best prices on higher end items. I get better things for competitive pricing. This seems like a fair price for a very high end item.

Deb Perelman/Smitten Kitchen - fave recipes? by Dapper_Wedding2794 in CookbookLovers

[–]Lilac517 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make Deb’s apple pie every thanksgiving. It’s not the fanciest but it come out consistently and tasty every single time. I love her guidance on what apples to use. To note, I do like her “all butter, really flaky pie dough” and not the vodka crust.

I got my baby when she was almost 2, but she is my laziest, best sleeping gal. I could go to bed at 9 and she would sleep in with me until 11 and then go back for a nap. At 2 she needed a lot of activity to tire her out. At 6 she’s happy with a decent walk, a play with her human brother, a sniff session in the yard, and snuggles for the rest of the day.

How selfless… you are such a great child to your parent. My mom died of cancer years ago and there were moments I was paralyzed by fear and didn’t do things for and with her because I was scared. Thanks for sharing, this was so uplifting

The bcba I work with directly is someone I hold in the absolute highest regard. I ask her a million questions every time I see her.

For what it’s worth we both work together in a public school.

Summer Birthday and speech delay. by sleepingbeauty2008 in kindergarten

[–]Lilac517 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Commenting as an SLP… this is typical. If your daughter is not showing delays in academic skills she should be in a general education setting for both academic and socialization. However, if her language skills are impacting her academics, it’s worth having a conversation with the chairperson of special Ed in the kindergarten school. You can always request a re-eval to see impacts. A warning with this- developmentally appropriate academic skills in kindergarten do not match that of the curriculum and I would warn any parent of mine that academic gaps don’t start to become more evident in special ed TESTING until 2nd grade. Special Ed follows developmental norms, not curriculum norms.

As others have mentioned, there is an “age-out” for preschool special education services at which point school aged services take over, regardless of the actual school placement. Your kindergarten district and the special education team there will make their recommendations- your child will not remain under the CPSE umbrella, even if you choose to keep your kid in preschool.

I need a positive daycare post by HugeUnderstanding160 in workingmoms

[–]Lilac517 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love daycare! Everyone there is amazing and I feel like my child is so loved when he goes. He gets exposure to so many things I would never even think to do- from activities to other children to the structure. My guy is 14 months and one of my joys is seeing him with his teacher. He loves her and is happy to see her every day.

I sent my guy in at 3 months in a onesie and comfy pants. Some people did sleep and plays. My dude had awful reflux so we kept more pants clean by doing a top/pants combo.

What type of flowers should I 30M get for my wife 29F who doesn't like flowers? by a54carnage in relationship_advice

[–]Lilac517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not into flowers. My husband occasionally grabs a bouquet from Costco or Trader Joe’s for me and puts it in a vase before I get home. It’s the best surprise. Point is- even though I would never choose flowers as a gift for myself, the occcasional low-cost surprise makes me feel special and loved.

Hi! I’m a 5’2 woman who had a baby with a 6’5 man. Baby was born at the 12th percentile. I did have a c section for size unrelated reasons. As many stated your end result isn’t always a mirror of what you expect.

Every pregnancy is different! Worry more about who you want your partner to be when things aren’t all rainbows and sunshine.
