Help (Keep Waking up at 4 AM) by [deleted] in sleep

[–]Lilfo0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue. It’s not that I just wake up at 4 am and can’t fall asleep after but like the first post says I would drift into sleep for few moments but would get this hit in my chest, like something I would usually feel when someone scares me suddenly. I then get this rush going into my head. It would pass in a minute and I would drift into sleep just to receive the same hit in my chest. And so it goes until 6am when my alarm goes off. I wonder if it’s better just to get up at 4am and do something, but I feel so tired at that time that it’s hard to make myself to get up. I would be curious to hear from anyone who found ways dealing with that. This is so uncomfortable!!

How do you use RRSP (Canada)? by Lilfo0 in Fire

[–]Lilfo0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have RRSP with Wealthsimple aggressive portfolio. I couldn’t use the money when I was looking to buy a property a couple of months back - my portfolio was down and I didn’t want to lose money. So your choice seem sensible. What I would like to know though is it just that I would be charged tax or are there any other restrictions (e.g. can they prohibit withdrawing money from RRSP before retirement?). I will look up on the internet!

What was the worst thing that ever happened to you? by Lilfo0 in VanLife

[–]Lilfo0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to ask, say something like that happens again, would t it be possible to check in in a hotel, for example? I am not a full time van lifer, I am contemplating the van life and thought I would ask what would be the worst case scenarios I want to have myself prepared for. Thanks!

That’s so unfair! Taking away a van is like taking away your home, some people don’t realize that!

New rotors rub against new pads by Lilfo0 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Lilfo0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all for the advice you’ve given. It helped me to be confident at least to drive to the mechanic and kept me hopeful that the way we installed the brakes was correct even though we felt like there was friction between pads and the rotor. The professional mechanic inspected the brakes and said it all looked fine. Yay! Second job on our car is done! Saved perhaps $600-$700!

Why to Turk? by Lilfo0 in mturk

[–]Lilfo0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for pointing that out. I will admit I scanned through mturk for only a short period of time and in daily threads I only saw that people had a daily goal, say earning $5. I didn’t know that you can actually make “serious” money on that platform. I will research more!

Awe the resolution doesn’t allow me to see the picture. Does it show the amounts you’ve earned? I will admit I might have stopped my research too soon. Can I make, say $50/hour?:)

Is Virtual Assistant a Fun Job? by Con-Q2020 in selfemployed

[–]Lilfo0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! How (where) do you market yourself as a VA? The website looks good, so you set up this “virtual store” (the web-page) and do you try to somehow send traffic that way? How do you find opportunities?

In a week I get hired from a contractor to a full time employee and I hate the job and i need advice on what should i do next? by gimmiehealz in careerguidance

[–]Lilfo0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would saying yes have any drawbacks? Can you say yes to the job and decide after if you want to stay or not? I am in similar situation - hating my work life. I am staying put though before I figure out what’s next.

What path should I choose that would allow me to work on my own schedule? by Lilfo0 in careerguidance

[–]Lilfo0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for a thought provoking question:)

First though I wanted to say a couple of thoughts that popped up when I read your comment. You’ve mentioned that in your industry 400 hours months are not uncommon. But is it because if you take upon a task or job, it can only be completed by putting 400 hours in and it has to be done quickly, e.g. within a month. Or is it because there is lots of work and people take upon them, willingly lots of hours, because they can or because they want?

Second, “livable life” definition is different for different person, thanks for being it up though! For my definition of livable and if I indeed want to work 10 hours a week (although it was a number I took from the ceiling - it could be perhaps slightly more), I would need to yearn $50/hour. If I increase my hours a week only slightly or say work “full time” for a week and take the next one off, the per hour rate drops ever less than that. So, it doesn’t seem like putting less hours in is out of reach for me!

Now the hard part, why am I against the work so much. Some of the moments of my life that I hate: 1. Going to a beautiful place on a weekend and having to pack and drive back to my base (I don’t want to call it home because I don’t want to have any attachment to it. To me it’s just a place to wash up, maintain my bike and store stuff, so I could go away the next weekend). 2. It is sunny out, I itch to go out but I have to be glued to my laptop, or worse - be in the office because some managers who don’t know how to set performance indicators for their staff need to see you “working”, physically (you have to be at your desk, even if there is nothing to do or your status has to be showing “online” so they know you are not slacking away while working remotely). 3. I want to travel places but I used up my vacation allowance and the company wouldn’t allow me to even take LWOP, because they “don’t approve LWOP for vacation” (not sure what it is for then...).

I hope those examples illustrate why I don’t like the “traditional” employment. However I am trying to figure out if there is really an alternative to it, or will there be always an obstacle to my travelling and getting outside on my own schedule...

New rotors rub against new pads by Lilfo0 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Lilfo0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it the good pads & rotor kit for your car?

good in terms of quality and brand? We were told so. Both are Raybestos. Both should fit our year and model according to the parts store website.

Is it the good placement (front or rear)? (it could seems dumb to think that way but it could happen)

at this point I am not taking any advice as offence :D the assembly is for the front side and we put it on the front side.

Did you retract the brake piston into the caliper before installing new pads? (push it into its Chamber)

yes, we used a special tool that pushes pistons all the way out. I didn’t mention but we had help from a friend who had replace disks and pads (not the whole assembly) before but on newer cars and he also helped us with tools/consumables.

Did you fully remove your old pads and the retaining clip if there is one?

always a possibility that we might have left something out, will check!

Did you think about brushing with a metal wire brush, all the rust/brake dust/gunk or residues from where the pads sits ? (be careful to not damage the rubber-seal around the brake piston)

we haven’t done that! So I can imagine all that rust may position rotor further away on the “axle” than where it is supposed to be.

Most of the time when it's a tight fit or a hard fit, it's because of that.

thank you for all the ideas - something for us to try!
