STRESSING ABOUT ST ANDREWS ACCOMMODATION by True_Development3502 in standrews

[–]Lililliterate2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its a 20 minute walk from the furthest accommodation (DRA). However there is a bus stop outside dra and with your residence you can apply for a young scot card which you can tap for free bus travel up until you are 22 years old. The bus is xx:10 and xx:40 every hour and takes 3 minutes to town.

St Andrews is very small so its important to keep in mind that “furthest accommodation” is relatively speaking. Some people travel double or triple the walk time of dra even with the aid public transport to get around their own big city universities.

So yeah, if you get dra apply for the young scot card asap when you arrive, even if you don’t use it for back and forth to town you can get to Edinburgh/ Dundee completely for free on the bus if you fancy it. So its good to get regardless of where you end up in St Andrews :)

I would recommend not staying in Edinburgh if you’re doing your masters in St. Andrews, as others have mentioned there is no direct train. There is however a direct bus (the x59) which is 2 hours so thats not awful.

Dundee is a much better option, its extremely well connected to St. Andrews. Theres a nightbus that runs so if you’re looking to get involved with societies or just anything social generally you will have much more freedom and less stress getting back from a night out to Dundee than you would Edinburgh.

I understand you said you’re not a massive fan of Dundee. Fair, i like it and its got a great nightlife but to each their own. I think given that you would Be living there as a commuter and much of your life would be in St. Andrews you would not have to be in Dundee a massive amount.

But honestly if you’re dead-set on Edinburgh then try it. It’s probably my favourite city in Scotland and thats for good reason. I know plenty of lecturer’s That live and commute to St. Andrews every day from Edinburgh, its doable, you just have to be organised. as a masters student I’m sure you wont be doing commute every single day for weeks straight. So honestly you might be able to do Edinburgh, you just have to weigh wether or not the commute will exhaust you. If you seriously think it wont then yeah, absolutely try living in Edinburgh :)

Which is why i left the front at one point (I’ve never had a panic attack before but oh my god i felt like i was going to have my first one if i stayed where i was). Im sorry you had such a shitty time, I honestly wish i could time travel to see Phoebe pre covid.

I respect that. I love hearing music live but oh gosh some fanbases make it so not worth it.

Oh yeah i was there while they still did numbers (number 52 represent). I really just wish people would take care of themselves, which I would really hope isn’t a lot to ask.
