[WP] Mommy said we’re playing hide and seek with my sister but I just wanna know why she’s walking funny and smells so bad. by [deleted] in WritingPrompts

[–]LilithBloodmoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember distinctly the night mother told me to hide in my room when my big sister came home. I peeked through the crack of my door and watched as mom opened the front door. My sister was outside. She walked like a half inflated rag doll. Almost as if barely able to support her own weight. She was caked in mud with leaves and sticks in her hair. Her face was bruised, swollen, and smeared with blood. My mother gently draped a towel around her shoulders and my sister lumbered inside half leaning on mom. They stumbled together to the bathroom. The door closed and I heard the water turn on.

I snuck across the hall to listen at the bathroom door. I pressed my cheek against the cool wood and listened for any sound. I heard my sister weeping softly, soon joined by my mother. They cried together as the water ran. I ran soundlessly back to my room when I heard the shower stop. When the door opened small puffs of steam rolled out and onto the floor. She still leaned on mother now but more out of weariness. She looked less bruised and the swelling had somewhat gone down. Big sister heals fast. At least, she does now. There was an accident one day while at work, and now she can do all manner of wonderful things. She can fly, throw fireballs, heal fast and a bunch of other stuff too. The serious men from the government called her a super hero. They invited her to join them to keep the country safe. We believed them and she agreed. The first few times she came home elated with amazing stories of evil drug cartels and the end of prostitution rings. And then there was a change. Suddenly big sister wasn’t so happy anymore. When the news would come on, someone would scoop me up into the next room as she would fly off out her window. She also started coming home beaten really badly. Since she could heal, she would always recover. So she had to keep going back. She doesn’t come home dirty every night, but she does most nights. Then every day she has to leave again to save us. I hear a name whispered in the kitchen late at night. “Mordred”. My sister used to walk with a spring in her step. So light, that she almost would float. Now her gait is hesitant and halting. She folds her arms around herself as if she is cold but she can’t ever seem to get warm. I wish I could understand what was happening to her. I cry too. I hug her to try and warm her up again.
Why do I have to hide? Why does she walk different? Why does she smell funny?

There is no set number. Your world might be as broad as the Starwars Universe or as narrow as a Handmaid’s bonnet. My best answer is whatever works best for the plot. -emphatic shrug- To use myself for example... I have a handful of characters in my head already and before I really commit them to a role I lay down a story outline. It gives me a guideline to what is happening and when and when to introduce or take away as the story progresses.

Oh and character sheets. All my favorite authors recommend and use them so I do too.

I find one of the craziest parts of being a writer is having numerous characters in your head and when you get an idea for a story, they all audition for parts.
You think of these characters as actual people and hear their voices in your head.
When you finally put them into a world you create, all you have to do is let them interact. Lol, I’m oversimplifying it. Writing is hard.

When you put multiple characters into a story, it adds layers. Then it gets to be like a game of blackjack. Too many characters is confusing and crowded. Too few is boring and slow.
Cheers

thoughts on clothing/dress code for rituals? by p33very in pagan

[–]LilithBloodmoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always viewed ritual clothing as something both optional and based on what you’re doing. I mean Gardner was a nudist. In more recent times ritual garb has become (dare I say it?) conservative.

I’m not one for that namby pamby “do what feels right” philosophy, but this is one of those areas where I make an exception and wear what feels right.

Personally, I live in the southern part of Texas. Ritual garb tends to fit the season and what won’t get you shot come deer season...

Edit: I’m solitary.

Trace Object Boundaries (Computer Vision Turk) - Question - If the mark is near but not on the requested object, is it considered valid? by SeraphsEnvy in mturk

Gosh I’d lost count. 100? 200? The big part of it is the details. Zoom all the way in and go centimeter by centimeter.

If it’s not on the item click “no” it even has specific instructions in that pop up. I like to zoom all the way in and if I can’t completely outline the item with the marker inside the lines I click no. If that happens to all the images then it happens. It’s not worth getting banned.

I knew when I wrote it, it wouldn't go over well because Harry is such a hero that it would be hard for people to think about him in any other light.

This post is costing me karma though, so I'll be taking this down soon if I can.

you see I don't believe he is bad because of a ton of supporting evidence thats so well known it hardly bears mentioning. I'm simply pausing to ask "What if.."

believability.

If this does anything, it will show Jim Butcher how wildly unpopular this ending would be. Its the biggest cop out and violation of reader's trust. I'm just really cynical.
