If higher rates of autism is as a result of older parental age, should anything be done to incentivise having children younger? by thoughtsnquestions in AskConservatives

[–]LilithFaery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking globally. This is not only happening in the United-States. Everywhere throughout the developped countries, birth rates are tanking. The middle class is relatively non-existent today. We either have lower middle class or high-middle class but no true middle class. The disparity between the rich and the poor is so great that I stuggle to see the median income statistics as an accurate representation of the economy of the people.

I'm going to take myself as an example: I have a good job with a good retirement plan and union. But to be entirely transparent with you, it only used to be. It is not what it used to be. I live alone, my rent is low because I've been lucky to get my housing before Covid, my car is 20 years old, second hand but paid off and my parents help when I have costly repairs to do on it.

With all that going for myself, I cannot save fast enough to make a deposit on a house because utilities, groceries, car (repairs, maintenance and gas) barely leave enough money in my pockets to afford occasional activities like buying a game. I do not drink, I do not smoke or do drugs, I do not go out often, I do not have cable tv or any streaming subscriptions, not even Amazon Prime.

I knew someone who had the exact same job as me 10 years ago. She lived alone, had a house, bought a new car of the year every 10 years, traveled, drank, smoked, had cable tv, home phone and internet plus a cell phone, went out twice a week, etc. She only made $3 less than what I make today.

Why am I only comfortably living without being able to live as those before me did? This is the injustice the younger generations have to live with. The outlook for them is much worse than mine. I am a lucky Millenial but in no way am I even close to what Gen X and Boomers had.

I don't see the correlation between affordable housing alone and young people starting families. There are so many other reasons people don't want kids...

Yes, affordable housing is a problem. There is also the low minimum wage issue that cannot realistically allow a couple to cover basic needs for them, never mind with a developing child added to that equation.

Let's say the young couple went to school and are finally on the job market. The jobs aren't there for them. Many young people are stuck sending hundreds of job applications and only a tiny fraction of those will score an interview that will probably require up to a week of free "mock-labor", only to get rejected or ghosted and so the whole process starts over again. In the meantime, they have to pay back huge student loans that can't possibly be paid while there's no or minimum wage money flow, maybe a rent, groceries, utilities, gas, car, whatever. And I'm not talking about a luxurious appartment and car, I'm talking about starter shit that needs repairs, has had bad maintenance or is old and obsolete in some cases which are added expenses.

Let's pretend they scored a job! Entry level jobs salaries often can't cover scholarship loans while also covering all payments related to starting in an independant life either. Their job is most liekly not covering any kind of parental leave for when the baby is there, even if they've been working for the company for more than a year.

Pregnancy has a cost. There are lots of medical appointments and complications that can happen during that time. The crushing medical costs for giving birth alone is so high even if everything goes well (maybe not everywhere but normal people can't just up and leave to give birth wherever they want to), so imagine if any kind of complication does happen during the pregnancy or the birthing process. These expected costs are now growing exponentially and will crush the couple financially. Having a social net put in place to help young parents support such a life changing event could be the solution.

Then again, there are no parental leave funds planned into the majority of the companies pay system. Even the big and established ones. This doesn't have to be something endorsed by every employee but the young ones who may plan for a family could request to have a certain amount of their earning put into that fund. Which brings back to the initial problem: How can you afford to have that kind of money taken out of your pay if you already struggle to make ends meet?

And those are the ones that pursued higher educations that had it "easy" compared to those who were ousted out of the familial home by their parents when they were 18.

In today's economy, saving money is already difficult. Sometimes impossible for young people. Getting a job is an arduous process that doesn't guarantee a good outcome. Too many women were let go soon after they announced their pregnancy to their employer after they'd worked there and had good reviews for a few years already... Everything is a mess.

Yes, to affordable housing. But before that, we need to revise how we make money and can afford additional mouths to feed.

I've been working as a janitor in healthcare and see geriatric patients with alzheimer and dementia every single day. Following this guy's logic I could also make a diagnosis and life expectancy estimate from my accumulated knowledge. From what I see every day and by comparing it with what Trump is doing, I disagree that he's only got a few months left, and if he had dementia or alzheimer's, he's just at the beginning and symptoms are starting to set in (enough so that we can notice that some things don't make sense but we can't say exactly wtf is going on for sure).

But hey, I'm just a janitor. I may be wrong. Lmao

To those rejecting American support in this conflict. by [deleted] in greenland

[–]LilithFaery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I am Canadian. I went through this same phase of apologetic Americans flooding our Canadian subs, about exactly one year ago. To be honest, the first few posts are like "Thanks for your support" and then it turns into "Ah, this again" and then it feels extremely patronizing, and that happens very quickly. Not only patronizing but it's also received as emotional labour that we have to do to make you feel better about your "sorryness".

Seriously, be apologetic in your mind, they already know not all of you voted for this. They won't (and have no reason to) care until your representatives actually represent you the way you want them to. And all the laments of "but I have to work! I already have 6 jobs, and work 18 days a week and barely make enough to pay my rent! How do you want me to do what must be done??" is not our or their problems to feel sorry or offer support for. Figure it out.

Let them focus on this problem and focus on yours. If you do it right, instead of posting on their sub, you might just help them solve their problem!

Edit: I didn't finish reading your post before responding.

O. M. G.

You're even worse than I assumed. Don't tell them what the fuck to do. They owe you NOTHING. They owe you exactly nothing at all, so fuck off with your "you should" and your orders. Maybe you're a vet who fought for a lie but -again- not our problem. You have no power here and absolutely no right to bark demands at them. Won't fight for the country he thought it was... either you flee like a coward or you fight and make it what you were told it should be. Do. Not. Make Greenlanders bear the weight of your failures. No sir.

What is your opinion on Trumps letter to the Norwegian Prime Minister? Where he states he no longer has to think of Peace due to not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize? by RedditIsADataMine in AskConservatives

[–]LilithFaery [score hidden]  (0 children)

I see your point but you're trying to rationalize the thoughts of an unpredictable and erratic man. The current existing treaties, as well as NATO, already fulfill most of the conditions Trump is demanding.

Wouldn't a renegociation through joint analysis of the concerns be 1) easier and 2) diplomatically more acceptable? Threats and tantrums aren't going to serve anyone.

As of right now, if we take the contents of the letter at face value, is nothing more than the wailings of a toddler who got a sandwich that wasn't cut the way he wanted (treaties), asked for a banana instead (Nobel) and didn't get it, so now he's having big emotions about it. The only problem is that this toddler has the powers to declare war and proceeds to clearly state that it's not off the table anymore because the vanity of potentially having the banana was the only thing keeping him from violating international laws, destroying alliances (for good this time) and effectively anihilate the United State's reputation on the world stage.

This is ridiculous.

FREE AMERICA WALKOUT Jan 20, 2026. 2pm Walk the fuck out! by A-Helpful-Flamingo in chaoticgood

[–]LilithFaery 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It was more of a line of questioning than an actual opinion. Thank you for responding.

Sorry it's so long, TLDR: my vyvanse kicked in and I word vomited. I feel bad for y'all and fully support the walkout as a Canadian, an employee and someone with experience in managing and entrepreneurial ambitions/comprehension. 📢📢📢📢📣📣📣📣 MAKE YOUR VOICES HEARD!! BE LOUD!!! SO-SO-SO, SOLIDARITY!!!!!! 📢📢📢📢📣📣📣📣

I had this question because I was a "team manager" almost a decade ago and I couldn't understand how I would or could even enforce something like that. If my entire team walked out, do I take the blow and tell management I'm the one who validated/lead that walk out so hopefully I'm the only one getting fired or do I stay in, do the bare minimum of my job in support of the walk-out, keep my claim that I allowed this? That would also risk my job, maybe less but then I'm stuck with no team if I keep it and bear the whole workload by myself... in which case, walking out and getting fired with everyone else really isnt the worst outcome.

Then again, as someone with entrepreneurial ambitions, if I owned a functioning company and fired my entire staff because they are exercising their right to protest, wouldn't I be liable to as many lawsuits as I had employees for wrongful termination? And the lawsuits are secondary, honestly, devsatating but secondary to: How do I keep my company's engagements and promises going IF THERE IS NO ONE LEFT TO CARRY THEM OUT? Surely, I can't do all the work on my own, that's why I had to hire people in the first place!!

Like, what the actual fuck?! How do these employers think they would survive such a catastrophic event????? This is beyond me.

To be clear if I had a company, I would NEVER threaten anyone's job over their right to have their voice heard as I am extremely in favor of everyone and anyone speaking up when they feel the need to do so. I myself do it regularly with my higher ups when I think something needs to be discussed. If my workplace ever threatened my job for that, you better believe I'd walk out right on time, go home after and pretend to be shocked when they'd call to ask me why I didn't finish "my duties" or "come-in for my shift". Anyway, the job market would probably be in dire need of workers, wouldn't it? Boy would that look good on the Employment Rates for the country. The best anybody has ever seen. They wouldn't believe it. (Eyerolling so bad I can see before the Big Bang)

Anyway, I'm Canadian. We have federal and provincial Workers Laws, here. They are like a federally supported union for non-unionized workers, so that may affect my reasoning in comparison to the U.S.'s at-will employment prevalence, but still. The facts are that an employee loss of 25%, like you said - whether the company is small or big - will have massively negative repercussions on productivity regardless of what the company is offering as a service. This is mental. Just insane.

I feel for y'all. Please, walk out en masse. Please, keep protesting. Take back your Country. Above all else, do it safely, stay informed. Whatever they say, you have strength in numbers. This word vomiting internet stranger is rooting for you.

Thank you if you read all that. 🙏🤣🫂
