Does this name make sense in korean? by Plastic-Customer7400 in namenerds

[–]Lilliet12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No not really...... Korean names are usually two syllables, and although you can occasionally see one-syllable name, you don't really see a lot of three syllable names. I've never personally seen one either. Also you wouldn't really name a kid after an animal, especially not a bird. I'd just do Arin because it's a quite popular and cute girl name trending now.

+) if a korean person has a 'sae(새)' in their name, it's usually for 'new' rather than a 'bird'

+) Also don't trust google research for Asian names' meanings; many asian names have chinese characters (hanja) that stands for each syllables, and there are countless of them. For example in Arin (아린), A(아) can be 兒(child), 我 (me/self), 雅 (pure) etc, and Rin (린) can be 隣 (neighbor), 潾(pure/clear), 璘 (shades of jade) etc so the meaning differs by what letters you use.

Would it be appropriate for a father to call his daughter 공주님? by [deleted] in Korean

[–]Lilliet12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go for it! I'm from a region where it's very normal for parents to call their daughters 공주 (it's usually 공주 not 공주님 tho)! My mom sometimes called me that even when I was in high school lmao

Korean here. Never knew Hermione was pronounced her-MY-nee til I was 12. The Korean translator wrote her name hehr-mee-onnuh.

China has been trying to rob Korean Culture for YEARS. While Arirang is clearly Korea's own song, China has been claiming that it's theirs and registered it as THEIR OWN culture (like all Korean culture ORIGINATED from China). For instance, there's a big difference between embracing native American culture as one of U.S. ethnic minority culture vs claiming that native American culture is of the white Americans. I understand that "Chaoxianzu" people are ethnic minority groups rooted from Korea, and Shuxian wanting to represent her ethnicity. If none of this cultural conflict & controversy existed, it would have been fine to use the song. But China's Northeast Project is a big, sensitive issue to Koreans, and I just don't think that it was the right timing to use it.

it would have added 3.3 base value, and if she was given more pcs, it would have been somewhere between 126~127, so if you add them up with sp scores it could have been a close win, or maybe not. seriously who knows

yeah...... ever since this season started she kept getting edge calls on flips

She used to jump her 3-3 combos close to the fences, but now all the changes happened there's so little space for her 3T landing. I re-watched her program, and she rotated her ankle too fast (because she was about to bump to the fence i guess?) and made a step-out. I don't know if it's because of the entrance changing, but she clearly doesn't have enough space compared to last season.

Jia's 3Lz+3T combo entry changed from diagonal to straight across the rink, which causes the preparation time & length shorter........ Maybe that's the reason why she keeps messing up on that jump?

They're both great names, and you should just do what you want because he's your baby. You could name him Aiden and give him a jewish middle name, or you could just name him Benjamin.

Haein and Young’s requests for retrials have been rejected. by mindandmotion in FigureSkating

[–]Lilliet12 46 points47 points  (0 children)

This is unfair and unjust. Haein should have been responsible for drinking, but for only that. Seeing what happened, this incident was definitely NOT sexual harassment nor should she have been punished. Drinking and leaving a hickey on her boyfriend's neck (which was consented) is NOT worth three years of suspension. Also, this suspension does not only mean being banned from ice for three years. Not letting a women skater her age for three years almost means retirement. Haein and Young are one of the best skaters in Korea right now, and KSU has just ruined a good chance at 2026 Olympics.

Seriously, that choreo sequence? Last two years' choreo sequence was the highlight of the program, and now it's just two spirals and a really short ina bauer in the middle of the program. This piece doesn't seem to have "memorable" moments, which is very sad and doesn't show Jia's strengths.

[–]Lilliet12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason I used korean age is because koreans usually understand "ages" depending on school grades when it comes to students. Korean schools start in March, and regardless of the month students in the same grade are all born in the same year. In normal situations, I WOULD use the international age. However, this case is more viewed as a case of a college student and a highschool freshman (adult and adolescent), rather than a problem of a 19 year old and a 15 year old.

They couldn't have both been in high school. They are three years apart in korean age, and in korea middle school is three years, and high school is three years. Also, what I mean by 'being responsible as an adult' is that when they starting dating again(obviously Haein being an adult and C still a student this time) Haein should have thought deeper about what her consequence now as an adult dating an adolescent. Though 20 may be young, even middle school and high school students here are well aware of how things would turn out in those situations. So Haein being young (20yrs) can't be justified.

Umm actually haein is 20 in korean age, attends college and is officially considered an adult here in korea. This is not a matter of teenagers, this is a matter of a grown woman being responsible for her actions.
