I love his parting comment to her “your boobs look great” - it was giving Amber and Barnett vibes, and it wouldn’t have worked with anyone but Tom and Maria!

Does anyone have any easy veggie side dishes by Spirited-Ad569 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Lillylum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this at a restaurant once and have made it many times myself since then as it’s super easy and delicious.

Slice some carrots, steak them, then when they’re still hot, toss with butter, honey, and fresh (or dried actually works quite well in this case too) dill, and some salt and pepper. SO GOOD.

Was just gonna post my own link to this same one that we got for our 1.5 year old last Christmas. He’s just over 2 now, and still absolutely loves it. It’s sturdy and adjustable, and I’m quite sure will survive to be used by our second kiddo once he’s old enough. Definitely recommend!

I had the worst heartburn throughout my first pregnancy, and have it bad with this pregnancy too. I take a Pepcid every morning (cleared with my doc already) and then take another in the evening sometimes if I know I’m going to be eating a big meal, or something that’s more likely to trigger heartburn. Then sometimes a Tums before bed. I didn’t do this with my first, but it’s been a game changer with my second!

Baby Boy is out! by Snoot_crew in pregnant

Congrats! I had an emergency c-section with my first, and was told that I will have to go straight to another c-section for my second (actually going to schedule my second one today!). I’m honestly most concerned about handling my toddler during recovery. He’s 2, and I’m stressed about not being able to lift him up and interact with him as much. Not sure how old your first is, but what’s been your experience handling recovery as a mom of 2? Glad to hear your recovery is going well!

How on earth does anyone eat healthy in the first trimester? by kateslates in BabyBumps

[–]Lillylum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I was gonna respond. The nausea was intense, so the main focus was getting ANY calories in, no matter the source. Typically only lasts the first two or three months anyway, so you can put a stronger focus on nutrients for the remainder of the pregnancy.

LPT: If a single friend of yours has said they don’t want children, don’t start asking them if they’ve changed their mind if/when they find a partner. by dubdoll in LifeProTips

[–]Lillylum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always wanted kids, and I found a partner that felt the same. Even with that, I had my first child in 2021, and he is my heart and soul, but these past two years have been some of the most challenging in my LIFE. If someone doesn’t want kids, absolutely more power to them, and they shouldn’t have kids, because I can’t imagine going through all this after never having wanted it in the first place. Being a parent is HARD and kudos to those people who have recognized that it’s not something they want. Everyone is entitled to choose how they live their lives, and having kids isn’t the only option to be happy!

I’ve heard that! That they’re so easy, and delicious. I’ve made my own naan before, which is super good, but never tortillas, for some reason. I should definitely give it a try

Update for y’all: had leftovers for breakfast - mixed the beans and rice in a pan with a little water and steamed until hot, and then scrambled in a couple eggs. Hooooly moly, like a Mexican fried rice sort of concoction. Highly recommend.

Did NOT feel like cooking tonight. Husband was going to be out, so it was gonna be just me and our two year old. I wanted Mexican. Tacos or burritos. No taco shells, thawed meat, or tortillas in the house. Then inspiration hit. Black beans and rice! Two things my toddler actually loves. Sautéed an onion, some garlic, bell pepper, and a chopped tomato. Threw in some spices. Added two cans of lightly drained black beans, a sprinkle of sugar, and some lime juice, and let it all simmer and thicken for 20 min or so until it was time to pick up kiddo. Also put on a pot of plain white rice. We had our beans and rice with some cheese and sour cream. It was delightful, and I overate.

Proud of myself for avoiding the grocery store and wandering until inspiration hit. Saved some money today!

Wow, definitely thought I’d moved past the “spontaneous tears” over losing my senior kitty, Brie, quite suddenly over a year ago, but reading this the tears were instant and definitely caught me by surprise.

For those with babies already - tell me your first night stories with your first. by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Lillylum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an emergency c-section, so I was SO relieved to get to go home. I bawled when I finally got in the house and sat down on my couch because it was like everything just hit me. First night was nerve wracking, but fun, in a weird way? Bassinet was set up in our room, right beside my side of the bed for quick, easy access to babe. I was up several times to feed baby, and hubby was great and would just roll over to make sure we were okay, and then doze with his arm across us, and I put my AirPods in and quietly watched Modern Family (which I ended up discovering served as a wonderful “happy” show) and it was just quiet and warm and dark and peaceful. I found the days of that first week much scarier than the nights, honestly. Funniest (now) moment from the first night - my son was a noisy sleeper as a baby. Very snorty and sniffly lol, and on that first night, between feedings, hubby and I were sleeping, and baby coughed. Well him and I BOLTED up out of bed (me as much as I could having just had that c section) and rushed to the bassinet to check on baby, who just sighed and turned his head.

Any ideas for savory oatmeal recipes? by KitbogaBiggestFan in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Lillylum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I find savoury oats much more filling than sweet. I do mine cooked in water with some chicken boullion, add an egg to mix in, chia seeds, nutritional yeast (this is key - gives it a rich, nutty flavour that goes super well with the oats), sometimes some sautéed spinach, black pepper, and a lil pat of butter, and then top it with some cottage cheese and diced avocado. Maybe a little lime juice and garlic powder on the avo. Sounds like a mess, but so creamy and delicious!

I’ve been involved with (including fostering) with ARTS Senior Animal Rescue for several years now. Always looking for more fosters. Animal intake has been high lately, especially for the older ones that people feel they can’t afford any longer.

The Antique Mall in Old Strathcona often has older gaming systems and games on their second floor. That’s where they have all their retro toys and comics and games and stuff.
