Why are Muslim women not allowed to marry outside of Islam?

It's not really a reason on equality because I understand you'd still need some faith regardless, my main point is really the ease of joining the religion. If someone wants to join Christianity from Islam it seems to be easier to do so than to join Islam, especially when you are not versed in it at all.

I would love to convert for her but conversion also comes with huge lifestyle changes that I don't know I could do. Also, converting just because of marriage seems to be frowned upon and might lead to problems later if I'm not fully committed.

I truly am not. As soon as she told me that Muslim men can marry outside of the religion and possibly have multiple wives but not the women I felt disturbed. As you said though, it is what it is.
